how solve 'this accessory may not be supported' message when charging??

Using genuine apple chargers - all give the same message. Have same problem connecting to PC via USB. Has been working fine for months and yesterday just gave up. Perhaps docking station? Or ios7? Tried cleaning - ughh! Going to run out of charge soon

I believe it has to do with the voltage the phone sees and with iOS 7 it is much more particular. If the wall adapter is warm or large current are being used, the voltage drops. If the phone is dead, it will draw more current and make the wall charger hot which drops the voltage.

Try these tests:

Plug your cable into your normal charger (USB port, iPhone charger...)

Try charging your dead phone

Next try charging your phone when it is almost full

See if the error comes up.

Then try an Apple iPad charger (2.1A or 2.4A) since it can handle more current and will remain cooler.

Try charging your dead phone

Next try charging your phone when it is almost full

See if the error comes up.

In my experience, when drawing more current, it makes the wall charger (or USB port) drop the voltage which causes the error.

I started experiencing the same problem after I upgraded my iPhone 5 to ios 7.02. Funny thing was, it would charge fine at work using a 3rd party cable connected to a PC. At home I use the Apple cable but no go. After reading through this post I noted the comments about power level. I had the cable plugged into the Apple keyboard, which used to work fine, but no longer. I plugged the cable into the USB port on my Mac Mini and now I have full connection like I used to have. Charging and iTunes recognizes the iPhone. Hope this helps some people.

Guys, this isn't a hardware issue, it is purely Apple fiddling around with the software. As soon as the bug with not supporting a device appeared, and so unable to charge, they posted a new update to ios7 which supposedly fixed an issue with not supporting devices. Unfortunately, that update only partially solved the problem. VERY partially. I can charge my phone from the charger, but I can't charge it on the computer and can't connect to itunes. Well, occasionally I can, but it's very random. I can always charge via the charger, using the same cable that supposedly isn't supported on my computer. So the cable is working fine. I can't charge in my car either (previously worked fine). It's ios7 that has stuffed up your phones and their ability to connect. Initially, I thought Apple had just decided they wanted everyone to upgrade to iphone 5 so had made using the 4 really difficult. Looks like many 5 users have the same problem. It is NOT a hardware issue - everyone's cables don't all suddenly crap out in the same way at the same time.

So, APPLE, why don't you just wind us all back to an IOS that worked instead of leaving us with crappy service with phones that are now unchargeable, unable to connect to iTunes, and significantly slowed in performance thanks to ios7? And to think I wanted to change all my PCs to Macs. Glad I only bought one Macbook.

Same issue, iPhone 5 (on iOS 7) started complaining on the charger (when it never had before) when I was using it continuously for many hours on a long drive (GPS)

Now I've got it hooked up to an official Apple charger & cord and I'm still getting the message.

I'm going to try the "charge it while it's off" technique, but frankly I suspect something hardware related has gone wrong and it's time to RMA this phone.

None of my existing charging devices are working anymore - the chargers, cables or external battaries for emergency charging. They were all working before the latest upgrade to iOS7. The troubleshooting is very confusing, some combinations of these with some outlets seem to work sometimes only. What is going on? Even apple cables and chargers are not working consistently. Why there is no response from Apple when their forum are all filled with multiple discussion branches for the same issue?

I have read all the post about the problems you all are having and even the ones that you all might be using shovels, well I was tech repairing phones for years and these problems were occurring with many of the phones out there for years, I will not say that the problem is in FACT not an programing problem. I thing I can say through years of experience the rzar for one had this problem and it was the batteries and was a quick fix by shorting the battery (changing the polarity) then changing it back, less than a minute , or just put a new battery in, but I have seen new batteries do the same thing. I know that most of you may not understand what I am speak of but the batteries also have memory chips and this can and are altered sometimes causing the battery not to charge and also not except the charger. With all this being said with iphones having a sealed unit not allowing you to access the battery causes a problem for those unable to change the battery to see if this the problem. While I do agree with (diesel vdud) that many times it can be the charging port it is not always and he certainly does not know and can not say what each of your problems are because from or by, hopefully he will have the same problem and will get to experience what you all have, many times the same problems can be caused various things because of the number parts and programs it takes to perform one thing as simple as charging your phone..I hope this will at least one resolve your problem, these forums are a great tool and can be very helpful if every will just stay with facts and not guess, it is ok not to know but speculations and bad advise can be very costly. GOD bless you all...
