how solve 'this accessory may not be supported' message when charging??

Using genuine apple chargers - all give the same message. Have same problem connecting to PC via USB. Has been working fine for months and yesterday just gave up. Perhaps docking station? Or ios7? Tried cleaning - ughh! Going to run out of charge soon

This is extremely arrogant. The forum is hosted on Apple's main site and they do not care what feedback people have here. It is either over confidence or lack of business sense. They perhaps learn from Microsoft, IBM, HP, Oracle, etc types of players where their engineers are encouraged internally to participate in the forums and contribute to the society and take any feedback to them. This forum could have been used as marketing intelligence tool by Apple but it seems that too rich to spend money somewhere else.

I'm not sure you know what the definition of arrogant is.

In fact ASC isn't even hosted by Apple. Engineers have been known to read here when there is a problem emerging but it isn't very often but they don't respond just like they don't on HP, Dell and Microsoft forums. And this would be a very poor place to do marketing research.

I have been running iOz 7.0.4 fors some time. However today I upgraded to iTunes 11.2.2 and iCloud Control Panel 3.1 and got the 'may not be supported' message on my Window 7 PC.. I waded through the 3 pages of discussions / arguments here.

I then unplugged my USB cord from my PC and I unplugged my iPhone from the other end of the cable, restarted my computer, and replugged in my iPhone 4. I jiggled connections and repeated the process. On the 2nd or 3rd go round I got the familiar tone indicating, the computer recognized my iPhone. Cannot tell you in what order I did what, but it was worth the exercise. Maybe I cleared some dirt? Everything worked great until I upgraded!! And now working fine again!!!!

If all else fails... as a test try a USB port in the back of the computer [for a desk top]... they seem to work when the front ones don't... Anyhow this is my un techie solution... Problem solved!.

I am not sure why you are taking offense for apple and trying to justify. Who are you? I totally believed in what you said and just made a comment about Apple not walking through these forums at all. I can forward you tons of links from HP, Microsoft, etc. where their own staff helped my team on several occasions and in time by taking extra steps. It is mainly because they get to quote their contribution to the society during their year end appraisal. Just an internal best practice if Apple has any intention to contribute to the society who has helped them grow so much and beyond. Since blogs are inside Apple site, how one would know Apple does not know about it.

charger polarity!!!

at least thats what resolved it for me.

just today the charger and cable ive been using for months started to give me the -device not supported- message.

after cleaning the port and cable ends and charger it was still happening.

i noticed the charger is not polarity oriented so i unplugged it and flipped its orientation to the outlet and voila!!!

i hope this easy fix helps everyone.

I think part of the puzzle might be the way the iphone is connected. In my case, I have been using a lightning cable plugged into the front of my computer USB 2.0 and it works fine. The problem with my setup is that I am running out of USB ports - my pc looks like a borg with all the things charging from it... So, I bought a USB hub to connect multiple devices (cheapy one - nothing special) Then I started plugging my iphone, my Microsoft headphones, my two tablets into it. Now, I get the 'this accessory may not be supported' on my iphone. (I don't get the message all the time but I also don't always have all those devices plugged into the hub at the same time.) When I plug my iphone into the usb port (like I used to), the message doesn't appear. It worked for me, hopefully will help others as well.

Cheers,

Shannon

interesting way of words to use when this about helping a fellow iphone user

but you are right about one thing.... the steaming pile of _ _ _ _ is actually my iphone 5 ever since iso7

you may have your opinion as a user that is lucky enough to dodge any major issue but if you only could understand and see beyond your steaming pile

that iso7 was not so lucky for a few hundred thousand fellow iphoners and the frustration of countless phone issues I don't need to list nor have the hours to waste

has your friend not foe left with forums to look for assistance since apple make it very difficult to get support.

so instead of assistance its seem you provide ***

This worked for me. Good luck on yours :

I was initially getting the "this accessory may not be supported" message on my iPhone5.

-Plug in charger

- Dismiss the message

- Turn off the iphone (while charger plugged in)

-- (my phone was in airplane mode as I tried this, not sure if it makes a difference but keep in mind)

- Keep iphone off for a while

- Turn it back on

Should be now charged.

how solve 'this accessory may not be supported' message when charging??
