Why is genre showing all genres for an artist instead of the selected genre?

I posted this under itunes match but there doesn't seem to be a fit there. Trying here.

I have a new iphone 5s and I've had itunes in the cloud/match since it started. Used an iphone before with no problem doing what I describe below.

I have many artists who, for example, may have christmas CDs or religious CDs in addition to their normal genre. Itunes may label all of them something like "country" by default but I have manually changed them to "christmas" so the tracks would not be mixed in with the "usual" genre.

For example, I may have religious and country themes on my iphone but I could go to genre, filter to country, play the artist and the "religious" genre would not show up. Now, even though I have the genre labeled as desired in itunes, all the CDs show up in the iphone when I go to genre for that artists. It doesn't really seem to filter by genre.

Is this because of how itunes has it labeled for genre?

I don't have itunes match even turned on for this iphone b/c of the hassles I've run into. I am not showing all music. I sync the music by direct connection to itunes by usb.

Any ideas? Anyone else encountered this issue?

Thanks.

I can't make up my mind which interface I prefer more since both of them work correctly. I have been switching back and forth in terms of which ends up on the bottom row. Though Lagu has been down there more since it has the iOS 6 interface I had become accustomed to.

BTW, I also have "Rondo Player" which is an interesting player. Problems is, it does genre drilldown same way as Apple. They made a major upgrade to the software yesterday and I checked and they still do genre wrong. Shame.... I sent them an email about it. No response as of yet.

Same problem here...

I am paying extra for iCloud music and my problem is with the way my iOS devices (iphone and ipad) don't filter genres right getting my music from the cloud. Filtering does not work properly in this form, but does on my home Mac where I have tagged everything.

Example: I have an artist that has music tagged in three differnt genres, when I try to bring up a particular genre on an iOS device it brings up everthing listed by that artist in all genres. So it is filtering nothing but the artist to the genre not the individual albums or songs tagged as a particular genre, making lisining to a particular genre impossible on my iOS devices connected to iCloud Music... I like to shuffle a particular genre when listening to music on my devices and I can't do that, both the shuffle nor the correct genre filter work!!!

I too have been battling this issue since I d/l'd iOS7 onto my iPhone 5. Everything in iTunes is in the proper genre, but when I sync to iPhone and iPad, the Genres get all screwed up. Your suggestion of using "Lagu" fixed it! For as much money that we spend on Apple devices though, you would think Apple would get their act together (I'm being PC right now too, by the way!).

Thanks again for your help and suggestion to use Lagu!
