Is it possible to connect a 2013, 13' MacBook Air to 2 external displays?

Hi,

I have 2 24inch displays and I would like to connect a 2013, 13' MacBook Air to them, so is that possible?

And if so, what do I need?

Regards,

Cipri

You can connect a third monitor (two external displays plus the laptop display) using this startek adapter.

I've been using this for a year with two 22" HP monitors. One is driven off thunderbolt with apple dvi adapter, the other off the USB port next door.

It's USB3 capable, so the video is quite good. No lag, although there's some slight blockiness/flashing when refreshing, or when playing video (particularly fullscreen).

I've some monitors it doesn't want to recognize (Sun monitors 24" lcd and 21" lcd) but they are older. My newer HP monitors worked as expected.

Please don't just throw this out as a comment. There are hubs which do not support more than one video out. The Elgato in particular does not let you have one monitor on the HDMI port and another on the second thunderbolt port. So, you can't connect it to your single thunderbolt port and then attach two monitors to it.

I've recently purchased the Cable Matters USB 3.0 to HDMI/DVI adapter for $50. It works just fine for non-video apps. It does not support HDMI security and thus the monitor on it can not be used as the destination for iTunes video or other apps where HDCP is required, because it just provides an HDMI out that could go to a recorder.

It has some problems with "Fast" refresh. It draws in "blocks" and this is pretty much in line with what I expected out of USB video. It's just too much bandwidth for what USB3.0 can offer.

I just bought the AOC LED USB 16" monitor. I now have my 27" flat screen and the LED monitor connected to my 2013 Macbook Air and everything is working perfectly. I realize that some are looking to hook up multiple existing monitors however this is one solution. The monitor was only $90 or so on Amazon and it is portable. No Power Needed. The stand in the back folds down. It runs off of one USB port (includes 2 USB inputs just in case).

Hope that helps someone.

I have just solved this.

I have two 24" Samsung S24B150 monitors that support both VGA and DVI.

I attached one monitor via a mini display/thunderbolt adapter from Apple and the second on to a J5Create JUA230 USB to DVI converter (there are also models in the line that support HDMI and VGA). FYI this is not a USB 3.0 device, but I've not had any performance issues.

The process is simple.

1. Download and install the latest driver from the j5Create site. (It does come with a DVD, but they suggest you download the latest driver from their site www.j5create.com)

2. Restart your computer (this is required after the driver is installed)

3. After the computer is rebooted (log in if required) plug your monitor into the adapter FIRST and then plug the adapter into your USB port.

4. The second monitor popup right up me (you may need to go into Preferences/Display, but I didn't)

This is a $65 solution, but after trying several $200+ docking station that didn't work, I purchased a very nice Anker USB hub (3 high powered and 7 regular USB 3 ports) for $40 and the j5Create adapter and for about half the price had everything I was looking.

If you don't need the Ethernet and audio abilities, which I didn't, this is a great solution. And it WORKS!

Is it possible to connect a 2013, 13' MacBook Air to 2 external displays?
