Ios7 problems, safari crashes

This new iOS 7 has ruined the whole ipad experience for me. I use this as a browser, email tool and music library. The browser randomly crashes on a very frequent bases, some times a page opens and other times the same page crashes safari and I have to relaunch. The browser seems sluggish I feel like I just took a giant step backwards. Email is clunky and slow to respond, requires multiple touches to change folders. Music sound terrible, has hangs in sound and generally sounds glitchy. Not at all enjoyable.

I wish I had just kept dismissing the pop up asking me to update.

If you asked me a week ago about the ipad I would have told you it was great. If it was lost or stolen I would run out that day and buy a replacement. Ask me now and I would say good riddance.

Apple really blew it on this one, they took an excellent product and turned it into a frustrating pile of hardware. If ios7 was not intended for the ipad 2 why are their servers pushing it out to devices that they should not.

I have searched and found that I am not alone in these problems but have not seen any solutions.

"Problems with iOS7"

"It looks like you are using the new iOS7 software release from Apple. Due to bugs in iOS7, a number of people have been experiencing problems with our Route Measurer crashing. We expect Apple to release fixes for this problem in due course, but in the meantime we recommend that you use our Route Measurer tool on a desktop computer or an Apple device running iOS6 or earlier."

4. Link:

Marca

(http://www.marca.com)

Hope the link works, if not type marca in google and hit the translate this page link.

It's a major Spanish football newspaper site, using google translate to deliver the page in English.

5. http://bhaveshb1.magix.net/ios7/demosite/index.htm

Pinch zoom in then out a couple of times

Additional info:

I have also been able to crash when reading my Twitter account on Safari (not on the Twitter app).

1) Open twitter account in Safari (make sure you have some tweets because you will be scrolling through them)

2) Click on "tweets" to list your tweets.

3) Scroll down the list of tweets until you reach the end several times

4) Then quickly scroll back up the list of tweets. - at this point the browser can shut down. You may have to do it several times.

A lot of reports seem to be about crashes on websites with embedded youtube videos, when trying to post a comment to a news article (any major or independent news article), when "multi-tasking" on iPad(opening/closing tabs) or opening PDF files.

I've created a demonstration to show this crash in action using a relatively simple html page with 200 divs and as many images, nothing complex, and the only CSS on the page (other than float:right) is the

div {

-webkit-backface-visibility: hidden;

}

I've submitted a bug report with apple as this seems pretty definitive that this is, at least, one of the issues causing Safari in iOS7 to crash. If you're curious the bug report# is 15499540

Upgraphed iPad Mini to OS7 last night. It's my 90 year old mother-in-laws, has never been synched or backed up. After restart, I was asked to assign a password, which I figured was a smart thing to do. Now I am locked out, even though I know the password that I assigned it. I don't know how to do a restore if I can't connect to a computer. Am desperate, any ideas?

The urls that consistently crash Safari on the origionl iPad and the replacement are:-

http://www.neff.co.uk/request-a-brochure.html Then try and down load the catalogue this page offers as a down load. The Ireland site for Neff has a different PDF and that downloads OK. A download on Android or Windows can be emailed as an attached PDF to the iPad and that also crashes.

http://www.hemingwaykits.com/CatalogueW180.pdf

This also fails both on iPad and as an emailed attached document.

As far as I can find out the common software is the Safari rendering and one of the Apple people on the help line let slip that "Safari plays dirty with some renderings required of it". In other places on the web it is evident that the App Store alternative browsers are only skins for Safari as Apple will not release the code for the interface permitting full control of the iPad by an alternative browser. This appears to be true as I have tried several of the browsers from the App Store and they still crash. I have contacted the Web Master for Hemingway and they confirm that they are not using and extra enhancements with the url quoted above.

To add to the experiences of other I have tried filling up the iPad with open Apps that have pictures associated with them. These are the art gallery apps. The result is that the iPad starts to lock up or freeze. Hiting the home button followed by a pinch and remove close the apps releases the iPad from the frozen state.

Thus the iPad iOS7.0.3 or 4 does not release memory from stil open Apps left open but in the background - this means that any multi tasking claims are not true when several Apps are left open. I had less than ten Apps open and noticed some were just blank pages on the pinch and close screen.

The Apple senior advisor I've been working with on this (he is talking to the engineers) asked me to post asking people to report this to Apple through AppleCare. If your device is less than a year old, you are covered even without AppleCare.

He said to be film and let them know you are reporting the issue, have worked on it, and if necessary ask to speak to a senior advisor. He's trying to get the word out not to hassle people with fixes or replacements. Knowing what web sites crash would be helpful. There is now some evidence the issue is related to some CSS coding. Thanks, Mitch! But it's still Apples problem.

He's read some of these threads and gets it.

Has anyone managed to get a response from Apple on when iOS7.1.x will become available. I resent any notion of having to pay $99 to get the Beta.

One also has to ask why the senior advisers are asking for information that can be quickly gathered from this thread - there are other threads as well that they should be monitoring. Facinating business model where the main user support community is not a prime focus of both quality assurance and the sales pundits.

Honestly, I would be weary of using beta ios. My experience has been spotty. For example, the messages beta was a cool sneak peak of the feature, but was riddled with bugs not found in the actual release. I tried a beta for iOS 7 as well just to check it out but it was almost unusable. Crashes and problems syncing galore. I would only beta if you actually want to report bugs and experience possible issues.

I wouldn't count on this. Even if these bugs are fixed in safari there could always be new ones to discover.

Nov 19, 2013 6:46 AM in response to aspacelot

Thanks for that. Another case of spin over substance. A true public Beta test should be as per the final release and used as a final check.

If the Beta has many bugs and missing features that means that Apple are asking is asking

1. To have software development augmented by better brains than theirs

2. To be subsidised by those taking part in the Beta programme

Just glad this is my first and probably last brush with Apple and I feel sorry for those developing Apps for Apple devices against an operating system that treats releases in such a cavilier fashion

Lebaz from the discussion thread "Ios7 problems, safari crashes is also working on this problem and has an appt to meet with an Apple senior engineer. See below for my posting to that thread.

Just tried the links using the Chrome App. I have sent the Safari icon to oblivion with the long press on icon then select remove. The very notion of Safari gives me a bad taste in the mouth!

I can not try tweets or face book as I do not want to sign up.

1. First try opened OK on trying 1 through 5 closing each page and repeating 1. I now get Errpr 404 page not found with all other pages and Apps shut down but asks for log in details.

2.Opens and I can generate a known route and the distance is given correctly in the box in top RH of map

3. Opens OK but on trying video for date entered crashes - repeat opening with another date gives "you are not allowed to view this page at this time" but pinch and zoom are OK still

4. Opens OK and the English part of the site opens and is OK

5. Gives " a new website is under construction" but pinch and zoom is ok tried ten times to make sure

I have been using http://www.neff.co.uk/request-a-brochure.html

and doen load the proffered pdf catalogue. This crashes the browser every time for me as well as sending the PDF as an email attachmen after displaying page two. A help desk suppervisor admitted Safari is not fully PDF compliant and suggested I brows using a Windows PC and convert the file to RTF.
