Ios7 problems, safari crashes

This new iOS 7 has ruined the whole ipad experience for me. I use this as a browser, email tool and music library. The browser randomly crashes on a very frequent bases, some times a page opens and other times the same page crashes safari and I have to relaunch. The browser seems sluggish I feel like I just took a giant step backwards. Email is clunky and slow to respond, requires multiple touches to change folders. Music sound terrible, has hangs in sound and generally sounds glitchy. Not at all enjoyable.

I wish I had just kept dismissing the pop up asking me to update.

If you asked me a week ago about the ipad I would have told you it was great. If it was lost or stolen I would run out that day and buy a replacement. Ask me now and I would say good riddance.

Apple really blew it on this one, they took an excellent product and turned it into a frustrating pile of hardware. If ios7 was not intended for the ipad 2 why are their servers pushing it out to devices that they should not.

I have searched and found that I am not alone in these problems but have not seen any solutions.

Here is the fix according to Apples erogance in how they deal with any kind of iissues wnen they release either a new OS or new Hardware.

Safari crashes becasuse of CSS and Javascript, So theses sites that are creating problems need to switch to HTML5.

Remember Apples response towatds Flash??? They told web developers to re write in HTML5, not neccasarily the web standard but Apples standards.

So although I will continue to use "some" Apple products, I think at least for now I am giving up on all IOS devices.

Just because Apple sells more IOS devices than any other brand out there does not give them the rigjt to dictate how the WEB should be developed.

psmyth,

Yes you are correct CSS and Java are used in HTML5,

I guess my point is that Apple always like to blaim everyone else but themselves.

If "most" things worked in IOS6, how in **** could they then break it in IOS7 and not even know about it.

To me Apple is just way to secret now, sure they have all the money in the world now, So I guess they feel they can dictate how the WEB and the World should work, or another words they no best and everyone else is wrong. Why? just look at there stock price and market share in the mobile / tablet arena.

The senior advisor I've been talking to just called and said the engineers said they had duplicated the crash. Nice!

He emphasized that people and others should continue to call AppleCare, tell them the problem, and ask to speak to a senior advisor.

He said to emphasize the Safari browser crashes. Senior advisors should be aware of the problem. You might say you'll be glad to send them data. He also said the Geniuses should not be replacing devices.

I would advise doing the "fixes" before calling: Clearing history and cache, and restoring to a new device (if you have an iTunes backup for later). That way you can say "been there, done that".

I think is probably a problem that looks a lot easier to solve than it is. I've yet to have an experience where Apple didn't want and try to solve a problem. Steve Jobs is still watching.

My Map runs perfect using JavaScript Code, CSS Style Sheets, and HTML5.

BUT the same code using Tap Tap Zoom crashes on the 3rd tap tap.

Low Memory allocation by iOS 7 is the cause not the JavaScrip Code or CSS.

Remember pinch zoom runs perfect with the same Code. When the iOS 7 Code runs the 3rd Tap Tap zoom it goes crazy wanting to much memory beyond what is available.

If Apple will focus on the 3rd Tap Tap zoom they will find the bug in their iOS 7 Code and will fix almost all of the Low Memory Problems.

Im afraid this is a problem that has only just started occuring and is not restricted to iPads running OS 7.

I have an original iPad 1 running OS5 and it has also recently started crashing all over the place and dropping out to the Home screen.

I have found the problem visiting websites that I have been using for years without the problem. But just recently the pages appear to try and load then reload every time I attempt to scroll or tap on an embedded clip - with the clips causing the crash about 7 out of 10 times.

Im not aware of any software that Ive installed that has directly caused this because I have not used OS6 or 7 on this iPad. I disabled the iCloud stuff on my iMac and deleted both the cache and history and bookmarks etc. which seemed to work for a day or two - but its now as bad as it was before I reset everything. The deleting of all the "remember me" details makes this sort of reset a right pain in the bu** so Im not that keen to keep on doing it.

So now we know that in iOS7 there are at least 3 issues that can make safari crash:

  1. A memory leak in the JavaScript engine. This can be concluded from research done by the leafletjs.com team. Probably this is the cause of crashes in many complex maps-sites.
  2. A problem handling css like div { -webkit-backface-visibility: hidden}
  3. A problem that occurs when using the iCloud Keychain (since 7.04)

It appears that Apple is now at least aware of the last two issues.

I think the major focus of this thread should be to get people to report these problems to Apple.

Secondarily, to get other iOS 7 users to come clean, and admit "oh, yeah, this is happening to me". Then say Report It!

This just happened with my niece.

I think this is pretty widespread, and many are either not triggering it, or passing it off as an annoyance. It's like, still a pretty device.

I feel encouraged that everyone who reports the crashes, seems to link it to an update or new purchase. In other words, it doesn't seem contagious. That would be scary ...
