New iPhone 5s shut off unexpected and won't turn back on

Thank you! I was about to smash it into tiny $600 pieces! There has to be a reason for this to happen. Apple really should find out why this occurs and fix the problem. I was about to go drop a lot of money on a brand new phone.

Almost had a heart attack when right in my front my iphone5s suddenly turned off with about 89% battery level. At first, I went plugging as it didn't power on and even with the phone being plugged. Came online and as fate would have it, I got to this forum and my problem was solved by simply holding down the power and home button together at the same and pop, the apple logo came on as if nothing had earlier happened. Am good with the phone now.

Is there is anything one can do forestall a reoccurrence?

I left my phone charging overnight and woke up to a unresponsive phone. I held all four buttons for around ten seconds and then the apple logo appeared...such a relief!

It continued to start up normally.

You are a lifesavor! At first, after reading your odd instructions, I thought you were pulling people's legs. But I held onto 4 buttons for a lot less than 2 minutes and it turned back on! Actually, it was more like 15 seconds! Before I saw your post, I thought I'd have to get a new phone and pay the insurance deductible. You're great.
