New iPhone 5s shut off unexpected and won't turn back on

I just received my new 5s. I activated it. Made a phone call. I was downloading my apps, and using them, when the phone shut off unexpected. I tried to turn the phone back on, the apple logo appeared, then it went to the waiting circle for a couple of minutes. After a couple of minutes the screen had a blue screen for a second, then it went back to the waiting circle, then it turned off. I've tried turning it on a couple of times with the same results. Help!

thank you so much for this post! my phone randomly shut off while at work and i didn't notice till after I got out when I needed to call my mom and I was screwed because I didn't have any way of contacting them. Long story short, I was able to get home and thanks to this post my phone turned back on! but does anyone have any idea why or how this happened? My phone is perfectly fine!

happened today to mine. i held the 4 buttons down about 15-20 secs apple logo came up i let off right away and it just stayed on never went off. i then pused all 4 again it went right off and came back on right away by itself.

does anyone know why this happens? i see many people had this issue nearly a year ago and now some recently so I find it hard to understand how it is any "new" update as over the last year a bunch of updates have been released..

This just happened to me I have had my 5s since the release date and it has never done this. Holding the Power and Home buttons is what helped me.

Yep.

Panic stations this morning.

Luckily a google search brought me straight to this page.

Holding Power button + Home button for 15 secs worked for me.

Fantastic.. this saved my life as I am an events manager with 3 parties on this weekend and my phone died for NO reason whatsover (Iphone 5s - 3 months old from apple store).

For my 5s --which just went dark all of a sudden, no signs of life--I also found a simpler fix which did not require the 4 finger hold: Press the power on/off button and the Home button together for up to 10 seconds. Bingo. True resetting can potentially lose a lot of data...
