iPhone 5 Power Button flaky since upgrade to iOS 7

I never had any issues with the power/sleep button on my iPhone 5 in the past. However, immediately after upgrading to iOS 7 I started having issues with the button not responding very well. It can take numerous presses to get it to work, or sometimes it just works on the first try. I have updated to the latest 7.0.1 and 7.0.2 but with no change in behavior. I am fairly certain that there is some sort of issue or bug with iOS 7, and that it is not a hardware issue.

Has anyone else come across this problem, and if so, was there anything found that could possibly fix it (aside from restoring an old backup of the phone before it was upgraded to iOS7)?

Mine started like this (only left side working) but then totally stopped. Here is my workaround. Go to Settings->General->Accessibility->Accessibility Short . Under the options given for Triple Click Home Button For: choose the option "Assistive touch"

Later, Wherever you are when you triple click on the home button you will get a circular icon. Click on it. You will get four options. Choose the "Device" option. You will then get an option to lock the screen.

When u want to switch on the phone simply use the home button to bring it ON.

Triple click on home button again will toggle the "Assistive touch" icon and make it disappear which can be an annoyance if it stays always. So use the triple click to show it or hide it.

My problem did start with iOS 7 on iphone 5.

I did to restore, I am thinking about to install from scratch.

Sometime I press on the power button and the screen close like before

but most of the time, it does not, I press longer, many time until I get a response.

it feel like the CPU is occupied somewhere else and does not respond to this event

If i try to take a screen shot, during those time, it does not work either.

if the problem is related to CPU working then it could explain whyBatterie life is very very strange,

I tried to see if a particuliar App is in problem but so far I could not find it

yesterday I went from 55% to 0% in about 6 minutes, I was listenig to music with bluetooth headphone.

I might go to apple store, even if I am not sure it is Hardware related.

This is aweful. The same thing happened to me, right after I upgraded. This is a bug and it needs to be fixed. I don't care who says this is a hardware issue; first because I don't know who you truly are and reasons you might have for not blambing it on the OS, second because I know that immediately after I upgraded I had the issue (not dropping my phone between the times) and lastly, because too many others are having the EXACT same issue, right down to the power working if you click on the left part of the button.

I understand that the experiences a couple users have described make this look hardware related, I would not conclude the same things from the descriptions of their experiences. To say Apple Care replaced a power button, does not mean that was all they did and that nothing else during the process may have resulted in the button working. This is just too big to be a coincidence for me.

I buy Apple because I want quality and not buggy, so this is clearly a let down. I am a shareholder in AAPL, so this really scares me about the future of this company.

I am seeing exactly the same problem with my iPhone 5, difficulty sleeping the device immediately after upgrading from iOS 6 to iOS 7. There has been no sign of this problem for the 14 months I've had the iPhone 5. The problem appeared only after the iOS 7 upgrade. This really screams out "Software problem", not hardware. I don't believe we've all suffered a hardware problem that just so happens to occur at exactly the same time the OS has been upgraded. As a 35+ year IT guy, I simply don't believe it! This is a SOFTWARE problem!! As others have said, Apple need to acknowledge the problem and release a fix.

Apart from joining this list to confirm the problem, is there any way of reporting this to Apple?

Me too. Problem started overnight after upgrading to ios7 . I use it as a business phone . It sits on my dashboard in a hands free mount . I simply press the power button to avoid distractions after a hands free call only it stays on . Hardly conducive to trouble free hands free driving. This has become quite a distraction and needs sorting.

Again (not driving this time) when entering a date in the reminders App for business reminders which may have been on a list for some time and need to be rebooked. Why on earth have they removed the useful blue 'today' entry in the list which enabled quick and important navigation for business and personal use.

When typing long text I now always have to copy it to the clipboard just I case it freezes. Have you tried adding multiple names to a text message? It's almost impossible to bit the tiny 'plus' key in the name field.

I don't have nearly the same confidence in this business device as I used to.
