iPhone 5s mic problem

People are saying they can not hear me clearly when I'm talking. I have tried speaker phone and the head set as well but it doesn't fix the issue... Has anyone else had this issue and if so how did you resolve it or was it just an issue with the phone (I just got it yesterday)

I have had same problem. Went to Apple store for problem with iPhone 5 and also told them about people complaining they could not hear me. Did get phone changed due to the main reason I went to the store but volume no better with new phone. I am also interested to see if others have this problem and if anything can be done to improve volume so I can be heard when using iPhone.

People usually say that I sound muffled through my 5s as well. One person said it sounded like I was standing five feet away from the phone with my back turned to it.

I just called Apple support and told a rep about the hundreds of users here on Apple's own site that are reporting this issue and asked him if Apple was aware of the problem. His answer was that he wasn't sure how many of the posters here just didn't like Apple. So there you have it. We're all just a bunch of Haters. What's especially irritating is that he had to keep askng me to repeat myself while he told me that there was no problem with the 5s.

Just so we're clear what an Apple hater I am, I'm typing this on a MacBook Pro and I haven't owned anything but Mac computers since 1992. I've also never owned a smartphone that wasn't made by Apple.

They think I'm hating on Apple too when everything I have is Apple. I think we are specifically Apple 5s haters, or to be even more specific Apple 5s microphone haters. Its horrid especially since I recommended someone to upgrade to it and regretted it since our first convo using it because I could no longer hear him properly.

Saddest part is Apple doesnt even care to fix this issue. They would rather blame it on us.

I too have this exact problem. Got an iPhone 5s 64 gold. Everyone always says I am unclear and I swear I am talking as clear and as loudly as possible-but they still say it's sounds like I'm talking underwater. Took it to apple. They said nothing was wrong. Then I had to get a replacement iphone bc I dropped it in coke. The next replacement iphone had the exact same issue with the mic. Sooooooooooo annoying. I think apple is aware of this already. But they won't address it because people can't 'demonstrate' the issue in store because it happens intermittently.

IMPORTANT POST!!!!

Please, everyone who is having this issue either call Apple or stop by your nearest Apple store and wage a complaint. Apple seems to be ignoring the problem so far. There is deffinitely an audio chip problem with some of the mics in the 5S. It's an intermitten problem and very annoying. I am on my 5th phone and I have talked with Apple techs as well as AT&T and then switched to Vorizon but still have the same issues. All my friends who have a 5S are also saying they have experienced the same problems.

Tell them you want to document your compalint and be in line for the fix when they get to it.

I just got a new iPhone 5S.

I got complaints that I sounded muffled. Read the forums, talk to my son's who is help-desk, & Sprint customer Support. And Got some insight.

Tech support at Sprint had the same problem. He said the cover was the issue, on muffled off clear.

So I removed some of the excess rubber on the bottom.

Also the noise cancellation tiny hole near the back camera. I held the phone with my hand over it and it was MUFFLED.

Didn't cover my hand over it CLEAR!!!

Answer: Mainly DON'T COVER the noise cancellation hole on upper back when talking!!

I did the whole carrier change thing which didn't resolve the issue at all. Nor did changing how I hold the phone or whether or not I have a cover on it. I also have owned Apple products since 1990 and currently have an iPad, a tower, an iMac and this is my third generation of iPhone. Not a hater just a hater of having a phone that others can't hear you on.

I have the Iphone 5s and it seems to have the same problem. When I speak throught the phone when it is in "Speaker" mode, the person on the other end seems to hear me. This is something that APPLE seems to be able to fix due to it being a glitch with the microphone. Just to add this, my phone is my 7th iphone 5s, and I have only had this one for 1 week. So, this came from the factory faulty.
