iPhone 5s mic problem

People are saying they can not hear me clearly when I'm talking. I have tried speaker phone and the head set as well but it doesn't fix the issue... Has anyone else had this issue and if so how did you resolve it or was it just an issue with the phone (I just got it yesterday)

I have had same problem. Went to Apple store for problem with iPhone 5 and also told them about people complaining they could not hear me. Did get phone changed due to the main reason I went to the store but volume no better with new phone. I am also interested to see if others have this problem and if anything can be done to improve volume so I can be heard when using iPhone.

I have a very unique problem with my iPhone 5s gold and the issue is very consistent all the time. Not sure if I can take it to the Apple store and get it fixed. The issue I have is that if I call someone and he/she hardly hears me when my phone is on my left ear. If I move the phone to my right ear, it is perfectly OK. Most of the time I am very much used to picking up the phone using my left hand and start talking. Please note that this is nothing to do with my ears and I am not deaf or something. The problem is that whoever talks to me hardly hears what I speak when the phone is on my left ear.

servlet, have you read other posts in this thread? Sounds like you are probably obscuring the noise cancelling mic with your left hand.

I took my 5s into Apple store last week with this problem and they took it away immediately for scrapping (I also had a touch screen issue). God knows why I waited 5 months before taking it in... I was in & out of the genius bar with a brand new handset synced with all my previous settings, apps & content restored via my iTunes in under 20 mins.

I just acquired the IPhone 5S, with an Otterbox case, and downloaded the latest ios7.1.2. Right away callers told me my voice was muffled and garbled on calls. Siri and voice to text worked fine. I read the suggestions from the responders on this site and narrowed my problem down to the noise cancellation microphone on the back, at the top. When I held the phone to my left ear I was holding the case at the top to ensure good ear contact. My hand was positioned over the noise cancellation mic and was affecting it, maybe channeling my speaking up to the mic as background noise. I found that if I hold the phone case half way down, with the top mic unobstructed, and keep the bottom mic of the phone within reasonable proximity of my mouth, it would not muffle or garble. If the phone drifted away from my mouth during a conversation the volume got softer as you would expect, but the clarity remained. Working so far.

Hello,

i have the same problem with the microphone. After i replace all the microphone part from my iphone, the problem still persists. So i try some voodoo and some google. nothing worked.

I fix the problem finaly by blowing with an air spray the mic from the back of the phone. So i thing this is the only solution to fix this anoyng problem.

You shound try this, and tell us if it works.

Also you can try to clean the little hole of the mic from the back of your iphone ( is located between the flash and the camera) with a thin wire ( but do it gently)
