iPhone 5s mic problem

People are saying they can not hear me clearly when I'm talking. I have tried speaker phone and the head set as well but it doesn't fix the issue... Has anyone else had this issue and if so how did you resolve it or was it just an issue with the phone (I just got it yesterday)

I have had same problem. Went to Apple store for problem with iPhone 5 and also told them about people complaining they could not hear me. Did get phone changed due to the main reason I went to the store but volume no better with new phone. I am also interested to see if others have this problem and if anything can be done to improve volume so I can be heard when using iPhone.

I have the same problem. My mic works perfect on viber calls or on Voice memo app even when I whispering and put the phone on my ear and away from my mouth BUT in regular calls when i put the phone on my ear my sound is muffled, my friend on the other side says ''Speak up, Cant hear u, your sound is too low an broken heard"

I tried disabling noise cancellation. but nothing changes. I shouldn't be hardware because it dosent happen in viber calls. but the problem is so big. it is a big deal for me. my overpriced phone can not support calls. plz somebody help me if there is any solution.

I'm updating too 8.2 😟😟😟😟😟😟😟😟😟😟😟😟😟

I have had 2 iPhone 5S both have the mic issue in which people are having a VERY hard time hearing me.. I've gone through tech support on the phone and in the Apple Store. Reset the phone from software, Hold the button down turn off, reload the O/S down load apps separately. Load O/S no apps. Called Apple for level two support. Nothing is resolving my problem.

*****My problem is now over 7 months old.******

I never had this issue on my iPhone 4. However, my iPhone 5s is becoming the worst phone I have ever owned. All because of the MIC issue. Maybe my mouth changed or maybe I can not talk loud enough. Could be, Right...Wrong...It's this MIC in the iPhone 5s.

Where is the resolution Apple?????

My family, friends and customers have been asking why my phone sounds so far away, muffled and voice is rising and falling. When the phone is two inches from my face is hard for people to hear me. When it's three inches the phone becomes worthless.

NOW EVERYONE IS TELLING ME TO REPLACE MY PHONE,

In the back of the iphone there is a pin hole between the camera and the flash (I have a 5S). That pin hole is supposed to filter the outside noises but for some reason is also filtering your own voice. I had the same problem and people could not hear me well. I covered that pin hole with my finger and people can hear me clear and loud. I ended up covering that pin hole with a small piece of scotch tape for now. I think there is a problem with the software. Hope this helps.

I have a problem after a battery replacement on my 5s.

Volume/Mute button, home button stopped working and nobody can't hear me during a call unless I'm on the speaker.

The ribbon flex tape of volume/power button was replaced and now they work.

The bottom dock connector was also replaced but nothing changed - I am not heard during a call.

The home button doesn't work but the touch ID does, as it did before the dock connector change.

So now, I got two issues: the home button and the inability to be heard during a call.

However, when I try to record a video the sound is recorded, same thing with the dictation in the messages app! But the sound recorder app can't do it, and neither can Siri! I guess different apps use different mics.

Is there anything wrong with the LCD and its connectors or I've broken something on the motherboard? I've been reading on these issues over a week now... ;/

Any help appreciated.

there are two reasons for this issue. one is the one mentioned about noise cancellation. the other is not fixable and is due to a faulty solder on the mobo. it could be fixed on the 5 by placing a piece of cardboard over the internals which forced the connection into place. the redesign with the 5s prevents you from being able to do that. basically my phone's microphone works sometimes, sometimes it doesn't. shaking it a few times usually fixes the issue temporarily. it is not a software issue as factory resets do not fix it. noise cancellation is not the culprit as i've tried it with it on as well as off. the microphone works fine too as there was a period where the microphone stopped working completely (not even muffled) but siri still worked as did recordings. there's something wrong with the way the phone activates the microphone. i'm out of warranty so pretty much sol.

We just found out that a book-shaped iPhone case front cover, folded back so it is covering the mic on the camera (=back) side, makes you sound as if you talk through a pillow.

If you fold open your iPhone case, and fold the cover back to back when initiating or answering a call, your voice sounds muffled. If you unfold the cover (ie. hold the flap along your head), the sound is clear. As the case itself doesn't obviously cover any part of the mic on the lower end of the phone, this was a very surprising finding to us.

The problem is 100% reproducible.

We hypothesise that the mic next to the camera acts as a noise cancelling microphone, whose contribution to noise cancelling is severely hampered and makes the sound of the actual microphone on the bottom of the iPhone 5S almost unusable. This is in line with earlier remarks about covering the back side mic with a finger or a piece of tape to alleviate the problem.

Some people complain that this problem arose with a software update, which could very well be true if noise cancellation procedures were changed in the update.

Apple has unresolved issue with the iPhone 5s microphone. I have had 5 phones replaced from Apple

my issue is just like all the other posts people say I sound muffled I can't hear me if I take the phone away from my year where you traditionally would hold the phone and wait the bottom of the phone directly into my mouth people are able to hear me but the phone can only be 1 to 2 inches away from my lips.

I believe the problem revolves around the ambient noise sensor located next to the camera on the phone. If you can put a piece of tape over the small hole you'll notice that the majority of your problem go away. I showed the tape fix to several Apple employees and they all just parted it as it was some kind of funky hoax.

The majority of my phone calls are made cell phone to cell phone I presented apple with this information and they were unwilling to use a cell phone to try to replicate my environment. I went to several of my customer sites and asked my customers to call me using their Apple sulfones and I was able to replicate the muffled sound when my clients talking into my phone. Apple is unwilling to use a cell phone to replicate the environment which is completely unrealistic because this is their market space they make cell phones. Land line phones have signal boosters and power conditions to improve a poor signal. It's not the as a cell to cell phone call.

MY problem never got fixed after 1year of warranty. This phone is worthless without the tape covering the small hole.

I Have been buying Apple products for 28 years... The only way I could solve this problem was to buy another phone. Samsung S5 solved my issue and it sounds great. My clients say sounds great. I traded my phone in at Walmart told the electronics manager about the problem and he said they take the 5s back all the time for this problem. It's not the people it's the phone. I never had this problem on the iPhone 4 and when I use an iPhone 6 no problem. Just the 5s. Now I got samsung
