iPhone 5s mic problem

I actually turned the noise cancellation off in the settings and put a small piece of tape over the mic by the rear camera till Apple gets their act together after my 3rd phone replacement. See if that helps

I also turned the noise cancellation off and there is very small improvement in few situation, but not at all... Now i can make a phone call but not with pleasure because people are continuing saying me that they are hearing me weak.. I`m getting started to feel dissapointed that i bought an Iphone... I can not use my old one becouse the card is micro and i acctually gave so much money for not having a phone... If "Apple" can see that please tell me what should i do, try to take another Iphone 5s or just wait them to make a "fix" ?!?!??

When I hold my iPhone 5S in my left hand to my left ear the sound is muffled. I remember Steve Jobs saying you're holding it wrong. Although this had nothing to do with the problem we're having now it got me to thinking. I looked at my hand holding the iPhone my thumb was on the left edge with my to two Center fingers on the right edge. My index finger was up close to the noise canceling mic on the back of the phone and my palm was down by the regular mic. I could see as I talked the voice could hit my palm travel up my hand to my index finger which was close to the microphone on the back.

I called my wife on the house phone using my iPhone 5S. She said that my voice was muffled. I took my index finger away from the microphone and moved it next to my two Center fingers on the right side of the phone. This moved my palm away from the microphone at the bottom. I did this while she stayed on the line. She said that now she could hear me clearly. I then moved my index finger to completely cover the back microphone. Once again she said that the sound was still good. I then moved my index finger a small amount away from the microphone and she said that my voice was muffled again.

I believe that the way I was holding my hand acted as a megaphone to the noise canceling microphone in the back. The noise canceling microphone thought my voice was noise and was suppressing it.

I work in a noisy environment, so I like the idea of the noise canceling microphone. Going to the settings and turning off the noise canceling microphone or putting a small piece of tape over the microphone is really not a good option for me.

For now I will use this new way of holding the phone until Apple can fix this issue.

I've got my issue solved, I did simply bring the phone to my carrier for warranty repair and week after my phone is back with replaced 'module' - they wrote that in to document, and microphone is working like never before, noise cancellation works flawlessly everyone can hear me sound and clear !

Update: Actually they swapped entire phone, from week 46 to week 52 and new one is working like a charm.

Also the yellow glow on the screen is gone

What do you mean by week 46-52?

I got my last replacement which was produced in week 45 and it has the mic issues. Not sure exactly what you meant by the change after week 46. Can you elaborate? Thanks

I am not saying anything about week 46 being the break-through week, just that my phone which had issues was made in week 46 and new replacement that I received and had no issues was made in week 52

Mines from week 48 with mic issues... Will swap it off for the newer one if it has worked for people?

***. Same problem here. I bought 3, yes, 3 iPhones for my wife, and sisters and 2 of them have the muffled mike issue. There's $3000 well spent. That's a 66% fail rate apple. It's been a total f@cking headache trying to help them get apple to do something as we are all spread out over south east Asia, and you need to be in the country of origin to deal with warranties. I'll post build weeks when I get a chance...

Same problem here, got mine replaced 1 week ago and now I have the same problem with this second iPhone 5s when I'm holding the phone upside down.., quite annoying to restart the whole procedure getting a 3rd iPhone that might have the same problem again, too bad!!

Got my new IPhone 5s 2 weeks ago. Same problem here. muffled distant sounding mic quality. People on other line can't hear me. I've also noticed it on my GF's 5c. How dissapointing. Thanks for all the posts about the mic problem at least I know I should take it back without delay.
