I have a 4S. After I upgraded to iOS 7 my battery life took a dive. My wife bought me a Mophie case in November 2013 after she got tired of me whining about battery life. It worked great for about a year, then about a month ago (December 2014) it stopped charging. There was an iOS 8 update around that time, but it never crossed my mind that was the issue. I carry my phone in my pocket and I thought that maybe the connector had gotten fouled or corroded. I blew the lint out the socket and cleaned the contacts with Deoxit D5. It works OK again.

Here's a funny thing: The cable made a difference for me. Ironically, an aftermarket charging cable worked while the original cable that came with my iPhone 5 caused a "device may not be supported" error. To be fair, the original cable goes around with me in my purse, while the aftermarket cable is newer and is a home body. They are about to switch roles; see what happens.

I can't sync my iPhone 5 on 27" 4K Retina running iOS 9.3.2 and Mac OS X 10.11.5

Contrary to what a previous post might say, mophie actually says you can sync it, but you can't. The iPhone doesn't show up in iTunes let alone be able to sync it.

From Mophie website.

Made for mophie cases for iPhone SE/5s/5c/5

Can I sync my iPhone when the dock is connected to a computer?
You can sync your iPhone with your computer once the device is connected to power, and as long as both iPhone and computer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
