Can't delete songs from iPhone 5

When I downloaded iOS 7.0.1 all my songs appeared on my phone. I selected Settings > Music and turned "Show All Music" off. There are still songs that appear in my music files. I cannot drag my finger across them to get the Delete button like the other songs in my phone. How do I get rid of this music?!

Go to your iTunes with your phone connected. In the summary screen for your iPhone scroll to the bottom and check "sync only checked songs and videos". Click done upper right which will bring you back to your iTunes library. Go to songs and uncheck the songs you want to delete from your phone. This should work.

Seconded on the solution from jesse_2017.

In hindsight, I remember playing my songs with "Show All Music" being switched on, so my iPhone was downloading stuff from iCloud in the background - but for some reason, this wasn't seen as a proper download by the Music app. Once it was 'properly' downloaded, it was possible to delete as normal.

I agree the resolution to this is to only mask the songs that cannot be deleted honestly, there really is not fix to this except for resetting your device and start over. I have spent hours on this deleting songs manually because they are NOT checked in iTunes but end up back on the device even though I have deleted them.

Either the iTunes on the PC is messed up or the iPhone's sync is messed. Regardless, I have read many posts and I see the same pattern here. I have found myself questioning why I continue to put myself through this pain and why I wont just migrate to android. In my opinion, iTunes has always been lacking features that I have wanted or features I have thought should be intuitive but not being able to wipe out your library is completely ridiculous to the point of accusing it to be buggy. I really think I need to evaluate my priorities.

Apple will you ever listen to your customers?

If you have more than one iTunes account associated with the computer you sink all your devices from, then these "ghost" songs appear that you cannot delete. What worked for me was signing into iTunes on my computer and de-authorizing all iTunes accounts but mine. Then going through and deleting song in iTunes and then finally re-syncing my iPhone. This worked perfectly. Hopefully iOS 8 will give an easier solution with its family sharing feature.

Step 6 on this website worked for me. I went into the Itunes store and clicked on "purchased" and it showed all the songs that can be re-downloaded. Instead of re-downloading them as the website suggested I just clicked the x next to them and "hid" them. Then once I turned off "show all music" the songs were gone. Hope this helps!!
