Can't delete songs from iPhone 5

When I downloaded iOS 7.0.1 all my songs appeared on my phone. I selected Settings > Music and turned "Show All Music" off. There are still songs that appear in my music files. I cannot drag my finger across them to get the Delete button like the other songs in my phone. How do I get rid of this music?!

Xylinx--How do you delete manually? I started with one problem. Followed various people's advice and now have 2 problems.

First problem--I downloaded MP3 version of books on tape. Two sets of the book, chapters all jumbled up, appeared on my iPhone under Music. I went to iTunes and only one version of the book appeared. I deleted it from my phone in iTunes. One version disappeared from the phone, but the second remained. It is nowhere to be found in iTunes, yet it remains under Music on my phone. It deleted it from Overdrive (which is how I got it into iTunes in the first place) and from a file I found on my computer. It is nowhere on my computer now, but still it does not delete from my iPhone.

Second problem--Following directions from others on this list, I unchecked and rechecked Sync only Checked, and turned off Show All Music, I now have two music albums on my phone that I didn't want to be there. I tried to delete them like I have always deleted music by clicking on them and hitting delete on my computer, but they do not delete. The check mark is grayed out, meaning it is inaccessible.

YIKES!!!!

Thanks tonyballinger this solved my problem!

I had a ton of music on my phone that should have been deleted through syncing.. This cleared them out and I just re-synced to get the songs back.

I'm not sure why I had so many unwanted songs! I'm guessing it's caused by deleting a playlist of songs without first removing that playlist from the phone.. Not sure.

Obviously deleting your entire music collection will get rid of the annoying songs. It will also DELETE YOUR ENTIRE MUSIC COLLECTION. That's like asking someone how to fix your squeaky car window, having them tell you to push the car off a cliff, then cheering because you don't have a squeaky car window anymore. What we need an answer for is how to delete those handful of annoying songs that won't swipe, not how to turn your phone into a silent brick.

I refuse to believe there's no solution for this.
