Q: How do I change icloud email when my apple ID has been updated to new email? Because of the update on apple ID, when I try to delete icloud account I have to put in the password, and it says username or password is invalid (because no longer apple ID).

How do I change icloud email when my apple ID has been updated to new email? When I try to delete icloud account (in settings-icloud-delete account) I have to put in the password for the apple ID of my old email address, which is no longer my apple ID, and it says username or password is invalid (I'm guessing because that is no longer my apple ID).

I ran into this problem myself a week ago.  It has to do with the order that you did things.  The iCloud accont is tied to you Apple ID.  So, you need to take care of the iCloud account stuff before you change your Apple ID.  You might be able to contact Apple tech support on this, or change your Apple ID back to get rid of your iCloud account and then re-change your Apple ID.

Anybody else have a different solution?

I'm having exactly the same problem.

Would this mean that I have to book another appointment with apple or am I able to call someone to fix it for me?

You will wait for the rest of your life. You need to fix it; no one else will. To turn off "Find my iPhone" and its associated Activation Lock you need the Apple ID and password that were used to turn it on. If you know the Apple ID you can contact Apple Account Security and have them reset the password (after you prove you are the rightful owner of that Apple ID). see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699.

If you don't know the Apple ID the phone is permanently unusable.

I realize this is an old post, but I just had this issue and was able to solve it:

    1. Settings > App Store and iTunes. Sign out of the old acct and sign in with new

    2. Settings > iCloud, scroll to bottom and Sign out

         a. When prompted to turn off Find My phone, it'll show your old email address, but enter the changed password. We'd changed the primary email and password for the account, and this changed password worked for the old Apple ID email

    3. Sign back in to iCould with the new email and password

Just tried it and it worked.

Scary as all get out because it will delete all your photos off the phone, then aks you if you want to keep all the data in your calendar, reminders, contacts, etc.

Once I logged back in with the new email address is said "Saving" with a wheel turning for quite some time (at least 25 minutes). I'm assuming it was reloading data to the iPhone that it had removed when I signed out.

Now all I can hope for is I still have all my documents on the iCloud Drive and that El Capitan finishes it's snail-like install.

that worked for me (entering my new password on my old apple id/email).  NOW it's telling me it can't connect with the server.  Any ideas?

when I tried your suggestion for my iPhone 6 plus with IOS 9.1, here are the messages I received:

    1. If you sign out of your account all photos in iCloud Photo Library, Photo Stream photos and iCloud Drive store in iCloud will be removed from this iPhone

    I clicked on "sign out"

    2. next msg: "Are you sure you want to continue?  All iCloud notes will be removed from your iPhone.

I clicked "delete from My iPhone"

    3. next msg: "What would you like to do with iCloud contacts and reminders on your iPhone when the account is deleted?

My choices: Keep on my iPhone or Delete from My iPhone

I chose: Keep on my iPhone

    4.  Window pop-s up "Apple ID Password" Enter the Apple ID password for (my old email address that I no longer have a password for) to turn off Find My iPhone

Dead End - cannot request new password, nothing....

These steps are not working for me.  I tried to restore and then finally erase all data to start over but it still wants my old password with my old email address.  I have tried numerous attempts to use my old password but it won't work.  My iPad is basically unusable because it keeps prompting me to sign in to icloud and now apple id password.  I have already gone through this step and created a new password trying to get around it and I am back to the same spot.  I've restored.  I've logged out of iTunes and closed setting and logged in.  I have done everything and still can't get it to change the email on the icloud.  So unless someone can help I hate to call and get charged for something like this I will have to find something else to use and my iPad can be a coaster.

Never mind.  Called Apple tech support and received these instructions that worked.

1.they gave me a direct link I can't remember, but if you go into iTunes, store menu from the top and then click on View account.

    2. There you will see your apple id.  To the right is the link Edit At appleid.apple.com.  Click on that.

    3.  Log in with you new id/email address.

    4.  Edit your apple id and new primary address back to your old one.

    5. Then go to the device you are having problems with and sign on and go to settings and log out of icloud and iTunes store.

    6.  Then go back to the apple id page on the internet and edit the email back to your new one.

    7.  Now go back to the device you signed out with and it should be blank and allow you to put in the new information.

Hope that works.  It worked for me.

Thanks for the update.  Any idea how to do such since I get the following error when trying to temporarily edit new apple id to old id? And the old email no longer exists.
