Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

I am unable to send emails from a POP3 email account, though I can receive them. I have tried using different ports for the outgoing smpt server: 25, 587 and neither works. I have contacted my ISP provider who is not blocking port 25 (which was suggested)

I am unable to send emails from a POP3 account on my macbook pro. I can receive them. SMTP outgoing mail server ports 25 and 587 have been tried. I have followed the threads suggesting BT Homehub may be the problem and have adjusted settings. All to no avail. Any help will be gratefully received. All works fine on my IPAD (smpt port 587) and my Iphone. It is simply on the computer that this problem exists. The Apple support information suggested the ISP might be blocking port 25 - I have phone them and they are not doing this. So I am at my wits end!

It sounds rather as if I am going to have to get this information on Monday from my employer. I know from a conversation yesterday that the only ports they allow access through are 25 and 587.

I am attaching 2 screenshots showing the information I have about the server address and the ports used, but I suspect you are asking for the address behind the address I have (forgive my ignorance of the process).

When you say the information is in the settings, where are these settings and what are the exact words I am looking for?User uploaded file

I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

telnet smtp.acornchristian.org 587

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.

Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. Almost immediately some line like the following should appear below what you entered:

Trying 217.69.40.69...

Connected to smtp.acornchristian.org.

Escape character is '^]'.

220 relay03.mail.uk1.eechost.net ESMTP Exim 4.72

If that's not what happens, post whatever you see — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then quit Terminal.

Thank you. I will check this on Monday. But as above, I was provided with the following information to set up the email account:-

ncoming mail server (POP3)

Username

Password

Outgoing mail server (SMTP)

Email address

Why should a password authentication method be a problem - is there anything I can do to test this before the working week starts?

And why should all of the above work on my Ipad and Iphone but not my macbook pro?

Best wishes,

I don't think the log extract you posted earlier is complete. All it shows is a login session with a POP server. You also have a Gmail account, and that isn't shown at all, even though we know it's working. Please review the instructions and try again. You're looking for communications with the SMTP server, not the POP server.
