Sent items show twice on MAIL (IMAP)

I think Geraud is right.

I recently updated my operating system to Sierra and I wanted to reconfigure some apps more to my liking, I've been sending emails for a year and having the duplicates in my sent folder and its troubling because it takes up so much space and hard to find certain emails I want to forward.

Solution:

(as Geraud suggested)

Preferences > Accounts > Hotmail IMAP > Mailbox behaviors > Sent Mailbox > On My Mac: Sent

(for Sierra users this window might look a bit different, its just streamed lined)

As displayed below, When Sending email out now, I no longer have duplicates saved but if you worried that your previous emails (before changing this setting) will be erased or lost, not to worry. you can simple go to the Hotmail folder located at the bottom of the panel, inside you will find all your emails, duplicates and all, I think this folder is synced with your online Hotmail account.

Also, any emails you send, are synced to all your accounts (online, phone, ipad etc.) So if you send anything from your computer, your phone or laptop, it will show in your other sent folders but what I did notice, you have to apply this setting to you other devices as well or else you start getting duplicates from those devices in your Hotmail Sent folder.

This question has plagued me forever and thanks to Geraud, this might be the solution to such a frustrating problem.

I resolved the duplicate sent message issue by going to 'Advance Settings' on the iPhone 'Outlook account' and de selecting 'Store Drafts on Server'. I'm using an iPhone 6 on 10.0.2.

Can anyone else vouch for this solution? Is there a downside you're not talking me about?

Robert's fix did not work for me. I am still seeing duplicate sent messages on my Mac Mail application 😟

I think it only worked for the test email which I sent, subsequent emails were still duplicating. I know if I remove my Hotmail account from my iPhone, the duplicates stop.

I'm sure these duplications are a new thing since the latest IOS update.

You sent mail won't be synced.

How on earth have it worked for you? If you uncheck store sent on server it will be only storing it on the device you are sending from!

It works because it is synchronized via the IMAP protocol. Just try it if don't believe. All it takes is one email.

The most easy way to solve this issue is thinking about "turning it off and on again", and it worked!

Had the same problem after configuring in a new macbook pro the mail accounts. The hotmail one suddenly duplicated every sent, received, spam messages.

My solution, as simple as : Mail app -> Preferences -> Accounts -> Hotmail IMAP account giving issues -> Account Information -> Sending Mail Server (here comes the deal): Initially "Hotmail", changed to "None" (exited the window to save the change), did the same steps again and change it again to "Hotmail" -> Exit, and all the duplicated mails were gone.

This worked for me, so if you haven't find a solution yet, try "turning off and on again" and give this solution a try!

Do you mean go to Server settings and change outgoing server settings to None, then back to Hotmail?

What are you talking about? What solution are you talking about? If you choose to store your mail locally how can it be synced via IMAP? Explain what you've done please.

IMAP accounts store mail on the server, if they don't they are not IMAP accounts.

What worked for me is I think that you are in some way re-bumping the method of saving the sent mails in the server, and what I think was the thing that was giving problems in our native application.

These steps worked for me, which doesn't mean that is going to work for everyone. 🙂
