Iphone users cannot text me after switching platforms. Please Help

Ok, So I just started a new job and have been assigned a company phone. My company phone is a Samsung Note 3. I have been using an AT&T iPhone 5. I went a day or so with very little text messages coming on to the phone and was currious why i was not getting responses from friends. After an angry phone call from my boss, I realized I was only getting text messages from Andriod Users. So I gathered my roommates and had them text me to figure why I was not getting texts. The iPhone users could not text me but i could text them. The android users had no issue. I looked at their phones and it was sending the message to me as an iMessage which i wont be able to recieve. I googled the issue and found other users with the same thing. I traded in my phone today so i dont have access to the iPhone any longer.

This is what ive tried:

Logged into iMessage on my Mac:

Went to Preferences --> Accounts --> Unclicked my phone number (and eventually just shut it off all together)

After this: No Change

Logged into iTunes on my Mac:

Went to Itunes Store --> Account --> Itunes in the Cloud --> Unauthorized my iPhone from this section

After this No Change

When to the Apple Support Community

After this: No Change

Went to iforgot.apple.com

I Changed my password, in hopes that it would disconnect my phone

After this: No Change

Grabbed my friends iPhone 5,

Disconnected his apple id and logged into mine

I toggled the iMessage slider to see if it would disconnect.

Logged off the iCloud Account on that device leaving iMessage off

After this: No Change

Called At&T Customer Support (By Far the Most Frustrating)

The guy proceeded to tell me that I should contact all of my iPhone using friends and tell them that every time they text me they need to long press the text bubble and select "Send as Text Message". After 45 mins, I just gave up. The conversation ended with the rep telling me that i should just swich back to iPhone. I talked to his manager and got a months statement credit for that one, so it wasnt a complete loss.

I own 3 macbook pros, a mac mini, a mac pro, 2 ipads, and a ipad mini. Im very frustrated and if I cannot get this resolved, I will seriously reconsider any apple purchase i make in the future.

Please Help!

I asked someone else to try sending a group message from an iphone and they couldn't. This person has never sent me a group message but the first person who tested it, sent me several group messages when I first started using my Android phone. He has no problems sending group messages to iphone users but I can't get them any more and nothing has changed on my phone except being deactivated from my cell phone service and then reactivated. It seems the switch to an iphone for a few short months has caused me nothing but problems.

Hello -

I do not know if this issue you've had has been sorted out, but i am trying to post this solution on each and every apple communities forum where people have queried the problem in the hopes that this will shed more light on getting the issue - which is ENTIRELY apple's problem to resolve - sorted out.

Having not been able to send or receive SMS messages since having deactivated iMessage on the old iPhone 3Gs i previously used, i contacte dmy carrier who could only suggest the same solution.

There is NO way for me to de- or un- activate/register the iphone in iTunes. No option to do so at all.

Calling Apple UK's support line and wading through their various warnings regarding the fact that the handset was well out of warranty, i waited to get through to an operator in order to make the 'one-off applecare payment' which the automated drone claimed i would be making in order to enlist the company's support in sorting out their problem.

On explaning the situation quite forcefully to 'Stephen', apple's applecare advisor, it was agreed that their was indeed an issue. I explained that i had turned their imessage functionality off on the handset, and could NOT locate any way to remove the device and thus my number from their ecosystem via their itunes software package.

Stephen then disappeared onto hold for approximately three minutes thereafter.

On return, he simply claimed that the number had now been released, and that it would take up to 24 hours for me to begin receiving texts on my number (on my new handset).

I asked for an email to be forwarded to me explaining the exact details of the issue so that i could provide said details on forum posts such as this one.

On receiving said email, which i have pasted below, you will see that it contains NO other information related to the problem other than the stock standard 'deactivate imessage on your phone' response.

Your support Advisor has a follow-up message for you:

Hello, it’s from Applecare.

As we discussed, here is an article with outlines the issue you were having: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5185

If you have any feedback, you can provide it at the following link: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Thus, whatever action was taken by apple in order to release t-mobile's number from their ecosystem is still a mystery to me. They DID implement some sort of change, and this DID release the number to my new non-apple handset. Unfortunately i still do not know exactly what they did, but should you face the same issue, i would advise contacting apple support after deactivating imessage on the old iphone if you are able to.

I hope that this information helps.

Thanks for posting that information. I too ended up talking to Apple support to try and fix my problem but I went through my cell phone provider so they didn't charge me anything.

Apple support said my number had been taken out of their portal but it could take awhile before it runs through their system. They said in the meantime, my iphone contacts needed to delete all text messages from me and my contact information, then put my contact information back in and things should work right away but I'm not so sure that's the case. I tested it with one iphone user and it took a few text messages before he could finally send me a text the correct way.

From post I've read, I've gotten the impression that this may not work if my contact deletes the text message and sends me a new one. I didn't test that out.

This has really been such a pain in the neck. You'd think a person could switch cell phones and not have to deal with all this. I've had several different cell phones from different manufacturers and one was with the android operating system and the others were just basic phones and there was never any problem getting or sending text messages when I switched a phone until I tried the iphone for a couple months.

I've learned it's easy to get into the Apple system but once they have you, it's not so easy to get out.

I have talked to no less than 4 people at Apple support and I have tried everything suggested. They have removed me from the servers, but I still do not get texts from anyone with an iPhone. Two of the Apple guys said it is a known issue and they are working on it, but no eta. My husband's texts sometimes go thru but he gets an error every single time. My friend cannot get a single text to go through despite deleting me and adding me back as a regular phone. I think it has to do with the Cloud and everything gets refreshed, so whatever is fixed gets put back again. I find this situation totally unacceptable. Had I known this, I would have stayed with an iPhone despite the small screen. Apple has little to no motivation to fix this, and burned thru my evaluation period before they admitted it was their issue and it could not be fixed.

My brother still can't send me a text message without first getting an error message and then given the option to send as a text, even after he deleted all my text messages and my contact info. He even tried to just send me a text using my cell phone number before putting me back in his phone as a contact and he couldn't send it.

Apple support said they'd work with my brother to get this all straightened out and gave me a direct phone line to call but when I called looking for more help, I got a recording saying the person was busy or away from their desk but they'd call me back within 24 hours. The 24 hours was up probably about 8 hours ago.

Like you, I find this totally unacceptable.

I'm going to call my cell phone provider back tomorrow and start over again. I'm paying for text service but I have people who can't even text e so I'm not getting what I'm paying for.

I solved my troubles by taking both our phones (Samsung & iPnone) in to our provider and a sharp young man found that I had been relegated to my friend's 'spam' or do not connect ....anyway the phone had relegated me to the 'do not receive anything' (or whatever it is called...I don't have a Samsung in front of me) list. My friend did not know that had happened as she did not know ther was a) a menu while in Text Messaging mode or b) that that opion existed!

She didn't do it....but it happened right before Christmas when the Jellybean update occurred on her phone.

While in text mode to your iPhone contact... click on the menu (bottom left of the Samsung phone) and see what it says in the pop up menu...about second up from the bottom of the menu list.

Yesterday my husband, with an iphone, could send me a text message, even though he received an error msg. This morning he cannot. It says "not sent". I'm standing right next to him. I checked the profile of the contact on my phone, it's perfect. No spam, or anything. He had deleted me, then re-entered me as just my name and number, as a regular phone. He syncs contacts with Google, not the iCloud. So it should have worked, but it doesn't. This is what has been happening for days, and why I am so frustrated! I feel I have no choice but to go back to an iPhone as virtually everyone I know has an iPhone and I have not received any texts for 18 days. Of course you don't know what you don't get, but several people have confirmed that they tried to text me and either they thought it went through, or now they get error messages. Apple first said I had to contact each and everyone of them to reset their settings on my phone number, but after pointing out that I have tested that with my husband and another friend and it doesn't work, they admitted the real issue is in their iMessaging software, which is completely out of my control. Apple won't give me an iPhone, and today I will go to an AT&T store and try to make a case to trade in for a phone that I can actually use, since this one clearly doesn't. Much as I love this gorgeous big screen, I need to communicate with other people via text. It just shouldn't be this difficult to make this right.
