Iphone users cannot text me after switching platforms. Please Help

Ok, So I just started a new job and have been assigned a company phone. My company phone is a Samsung Note 3. I have been using an AT&T iPhone 5. I went a day or so with very little text messages coming on to the phone and was currious why i was not getting responses from friends. After an angry phone call from my boss, I realized I was only getting text messages from Andriod Users. So I gathered my roommates and had them text me to figure why I was not getting texts. The iPhone users could not text me but i could text them. The android users had no issue. I looked at their phones and it was sending the message to me as an iMessage which i wont be able to recieve. I googled the issue and found other users with the same thing. I traded in my phone today so i dont have access to the iPhone any longer.

This is what ive tried:

Logged into iMessage on my Mac:

Went to Preferences --> Accounts --> Unclicked my phone number (and eventually just shut it off all together)

After this: No Change

Logged into iTunes on my Mac:

Went to Itunes Store --> Account --> Itunes in the Cloud --> Unauthorized my iPhone from this section

After this No Change

When to the Apple Support Community

After this: No Change

Went to iforgot.apple.com

I Changed my password, in hopes that it would disconnect my phone

After this: No Change

Grabbed my friends iPhone 5,

Disconnected his apple id and logged into mine

I toggled the iMessage slider to see if it would disconnect.

Logged off the iCloud Account on that device leaving iMessage off

After this: No Change

Called At&T Customer Support (By Far the Most Frustrating)

The guy proceeded to tell me that I should contact all of my iPhone using friends and tell them that every time they text me they need to long press the text bubble and select "Send as Text Message". After 45 mins, I just gave up. The conversation ended with the rep telling me that i should just swich back to iPhone. I talked to his manager and got a months statement credit for that one, so it wasnt a complete loss.

I own 3 macbook pros, a mac mini, a mac pro, 2 ipads, and a ipad mini. Im very frustrated and if I cannot get this resolved, I will seriously reconsider any apple purchase i make in the future.

Please Help!

I have talked to AT&T extensively. The first time they passed me on directly to Apple! The 2nd time they said that since the 14 day period had passed and the Apple was working on it they could not do anything. Then 3rd time I called the agent tried to get me to put my AT&T sim in my unlocked Verizon iPhone 4S and was convinced it would work (it didn't). She's sending me a new sim, but I know it won't work. I called again, and the new agent confirmed that the AT&T sim will not work in a Verizon phone. Total waste of time. She suggested I go to a corporate store and plead my case since I am not getting any texts at all and maybe the store manager will be willing to swap it out with an iPhone as I am 19 days over the purchase date. You are only allowed 14 from the ship date, and mine was delayed due to storms and holidays, plus it took awhile to figure out and test this issue. AT&T points to Apple, since there isn't anything wrong with the phone, but Apple says they are working on it with no known eta. Customers are screwed if you move off an iPhone and all your friends/family have iPhones. I am bringing my lawyer husband with me, and hoping I can get a phone swap.

Good luck. Personally, I'd never go back to an Apple phone mainly because of this issue. What does it say for a company that locks you into their servers and make it impossible to get out?

I have learned after trying an iphone and using a mac computer that Apple likes you doing everything "their way." I don't like using a service that seems to control my every move.

I went to the AT&T store and the manager was very nice, and offered to replace my phone. She gave me an additional week to evaluate it. What was odd was that we did some testing in the store and the texts from my husband went through, where a few hours earlier they had not. I went home and contacted several friends that have iPhones and asked them to text me. I had mixed results. For some reason texting sometimes reverts back to seeing my number as an iPhone for some of my friends and my husband, even when they have deleted me and set me up as a regular mobile. I believe it's in Apples software and out of my control so I will probably go back to the iPhone. It's very frustrating.

It is frustrating and doesn't seem to make much sense. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with which operating system an iphone user is using, although that won't explain why the same person with the same phone can sometimes be successful in sending you a text.

I have a lot of friends with iphones but we don't normally text one another but if one of them did try to send me a text, I guess I wouldn't know. I do have a friend who's using the original operating system that came with an iphone 4S and we've never had any issue sending text back and forth. My husband has a 4S and when I first found out about this problem, I had him send me a text and it didn't come through to my Android phone, but at that time I still had imessage turned on on the iphone and it came through on that phone.

Once I turned imessage off on the iphone, he hasn' had any problems texting me but he too has the original operating system.

My son has an i5 and he couldn't send me any text until I deleted my contact info from his phone and all text from me. He rarely sends me a text but I believe it's working ok,

My biggest problem seems to be with my brother. He did everything Apple suggested but still gets the error message. At least he gets an option to try again but as a text message rather then imessage.

I wonder if one of the reasons Apple isn't fixing this is because they're hoping people like you and me will get so frustrated and just go back to an iphone. It certainly would be a good marketing approach from their end but I refuse to ever buy an iphone. I'm not going to get sucked back into their cult.

I'll change my cell phone number before ever buying an iphone.

I 1st contacted Apple here: http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/contact/ put in my Apple user info, same as I had when going to the App store, etc. Then I found a Tab to "CONTACT APPLE SUPPORT". I entered my phone number, and a rep called me in just about one minute. I described my problem (bought a Samsung Galaxy S4, kept my same phone number from my old iPhone 4s, but my family who uses new iPhones - cannot text me). The rep said they are aware of problem, it's in the new IOS, and they have to take my phone number out of the system. Should be within 24hrs. This appears to be THE solution.

I just switched to a samsung phone this week from an iPhone 4. I have been pretty fed up with Apple on multiple occassions. I think that the iOS7 was too much for the 4 to handle and was the root of most of my problems. I think its possible that Apple just threw stuff in there to cause the phone to mess up or didn't do proper testing.

Anyway, now my mom and other people with iphones that had me in their contacts cannot text me. I have removed my device from Apple's website. Also, I have removed my Apple ID from my phone and turned off iMessage. The texts still do not work. This is just such a waste of my time.

We have an Apple store nearby and I may just go there to get this resolved or try their customer service numbers. I will let you everyone know what I find out.

I switched from iPhone to Galaxy S4. What I learned.

1. No matter what, you will have txt problems for at least 2-3 days during the transition.

2. Before (preferably) you get your Android, make sure to turn off iMessage on ALL your Apple devices.

3. Send a group txt to all your iPhone friends when you get your new phone, "hey, just switched to an Android, if you want to txt me, you must go to your message settings and make sure SMS is selected as I cannot receive iMessages.

I don't have any problems now.

Yep.... Im 9 days into this punishment. AT&T Premier support told me that there isnt really anything that can be done. They suggested that I notify anyone that uses an iPhone and ask them to delete my contact info and add me back, with my cell number saved in the "Mobile" field and not "iPhone".

Since my Company and 90% of my friends use iPhones exclusively, I dont see this getting fixed anytime soon.

This is very disappointing.

Steps Ive performed prior to contacting AT&T;

  1. Disabled iMessage on my iPhone and iPad Air
  2. Performed a factory reset on BOTH devices
  3. Logged into my AppleID on the apple site and "unregistered" all my devices (per http://techcrunch.com/2012/01/05/imessage-bug-traps-android-converters-personal- conversations-but-theres-a-fix/)

Instructions:

Which also didnt work. So right now Im screwed pretty much.

Out of all steps you have done only one helps - signing out of imessage on all apple devices starting with iphone.

If you still have problem contact Apple and have on the phone with you one of your friends that has problem to message you. That helps to figure out the problem. But essentially you willingly left imessage universe and deprived yourself of it's service - you will suffer for losing it. How long depends on your friends smarts and wills, cause they will be informed that to message you may or may not cost them now.

So, Its been about six months since I posted the original post and many many many people have had the same issue. For me, it took about 14-15 days for my iphone to release my number. I had been on the phone with Apple many times and it took til about day 10 for me to get the officail answer. When you first log into an iphone and setup iMessage, you link your phone number to the iMessage Server. I was told that adding to the server can be done at anytime, but it takes 14 days of inactivity for a device(and its phone number) to be deleted from the system. After many questions, their reasoning for this is to limit people who wish to switch platforms, and to limit trade-in and reselling the phone. One of my friends made the same switch, but because of my advice, held onto his iphone for that 14 day period. He did all the same steps I did, but held on the the phone so he could guarrentee its disconnect from the server. Everyday for about 3 days, he would repeatiatly turn off iMessage and on day 4, it released. He was also smart and mass texted every contact on his iphone about a week before he got his droid that they would need to delete his number and reprogram to mobile rather than iPhone in his contacts.

While I know the frustrations everyone that has this issue is going through, its really not all that bad once its over with. 2 weeks and its solved. It was difficult for me as I am a small business owner and rely on information from clients and suppliers, sending the mass text and email avoids this issue for the most part. I hope this helps.

Please do not do that, since before you can turn it OFF you need to turn it on and that activates imessage back.

Just contact Apple and ask them to revoke phone number from imessage system, or turn it OFF ONE time. If after two days there is still a problem contact Apple back with someone who still has a problem to message you, figure out what is going on.

@Original Poster, sorry for contradicting to your valuable experiences. Remember that ATT guy that ticked you OFF - one person who was honest with you.LOL
