Above is the error that I started receiving this morning. The phone wasn't plugged into anything and appeared to have turned off due to a low battery. The phone was unresponsive when I hit the lock screen button or home button. When I plugged it into a wall outlet with the original USB cord and wall adapter, it initially showed that it had a low battery. After a few minutes once it had enough power to start, the Apple logo displayed normally for a few seconds and then the screen went dim and displayed the above error.

I then pushed and help the lock screen button and home button together until it turned off to hard reset it. I held the home button and plugged it into my Mac Mini so that it would go into recovery mode.

When I am prompted to restore the device iTunes states that it is preparing the iPhone to be restored, the phone itself will turn off and back on with the Apple logo temporarily until it goes back to the the error screen at the top of this post. iTunes displays that it is waiting...

When iTunes finally gives up, it will throw an unexpected error of either 4005 or 4013

I've seen similar discussions such as:

iPhone 4S Stuck at boot showing [NAND] ? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4109291?start=0&tstart=0

Well I was using my iphone 5, When ..... i get the same error , https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5332446

My iphone 5 wont move ..... offset 1 Someone PLEASE HELP ME! https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4977481

and several others but none of which have been helpful. I've seen some actual Apple employees post on the discussions but nothing useful; the typical have you read the troubleshooting steps, here's some links to error messages, etc...that don't explain what this issue is and what I can do to resolve it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I took my iPhone 5s for a swim the other day and here's how I revived it

I accidently left it in my poscket when I jumped in the pool. It was fully under for just over a minute. Upon relizing it was in my pocket I said some choice words and jumped out. I looked at the phone and YES it was now off...when it had been on.

I pushed the home button and nothing.....I knew not to push the power button.

I sat the phone outside for the sun to dry it. I left it out there for 3-4 hours

I was impatient knowing I should have left it out there for the night as well...but didn't

I connected the phone to the computer and it powered up....thought SWEET....then a few seconds went by and off it went. Now when reconnecting it the phone would go to iTunes and demand to be restored

The error code from the orig. poster now showed up and time after time it would show that error code

I took out the sim card and noticed it was damp still...not good...dried it off. NOW SEEING that by opening that sim card there was better air access to the inside. I took a hair dryer and placed it next to that hole and turned the dryer on high for 20 minutes.

Still the same code ....tried it 8-10 times

went to bed and decided I'd try it one last time in the morn

low and behold...the phone took the restore

the screen had some water in it, but I could see everything pretty well considering.

It's now 3 days later and most of the water in the screen has dried out.

I followed some guys advice to turn brightness to high and auto dim off....that helped.

Hope this helps someone out there

I stopped in the apple store and they said it would be $269 to replace it....and stated once water is on the phone they don't do repairs...only replace.

I was VERY VERY happy to not have to spend $269 for a dum dum error.

Got a similar message on my iPhone 5:

[NAND] _FindFlashMediaAndKeepout:601 physical nand block offset 1

Is there an easy guide you suggest for doing that disassembly and reassembly job?

Which is the exact component to replace & where to buy an original one?

UPDATE:

I had been struggling with this issue for the better part of 3 weeks until I finally found a solution on GSM forum.

BACKGROUND:

-In my case, my problem had started with the NAND error after putting a new screen on.

-Put the old cracked screen on and it seemed to work.

-After unplugging and plugging the new screen in a bunch of times AND doing the restore, it seemed to boot correctly.

-Once in a while the phone would shut down and boot back to the NAND error again, and after about 20 resets it would somehow 'luckily' boot correctly.

-After about 2 more weeks, it stopped ever booting correctly and booted only to the NAND screen ever no matter what I did.

-I tried to do the DFU Mode / Restore thing again since that had worked once before.

-Still no dice.

-I READ ON THE GSM FORUM ABOUT THE COMPASS IC which is SUPER CLOSE to where the Front Camera Flex Cable plugs in. A user said just to remove it. I have no soldering experience so I simply pried it off with a metal clip.

-Voila, finally got passed the -4013 error in the Restore screen, and now I have a functional phone again, probably without a compass feature, but I have been trying to make this phone last as I am still under contract for a couple more months.

Hello E92MAC,

I encountered the same problem recently and it's really annoying. I would like to give a try on your solution as it seems. But I need a little clarification.

Mine is an iPhone 5 bought while in the UK. Now i'm at India. Some people say that iPhone components vary based on geographical location. So, I wish to buy this "PROXIMITY/CAMERA FLUX" component in UK itself. Can you help me by giving me the exact amazon UK page where this component is? (There are lots of similar things and I'm Confused) It will be really helpful for me. Waiting eagerly for your reply. Many Thanks.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR ADVICE E92MAC!!! Your solution worked and i got my iPhone to boot to the home screen instead of the [NAND] code.. However I can only boot it to the home screen if I leave the camera/ proximity sensor flex cable detached. I have tried multiple screens with multiple camera/ proximity sensor flex cables and I get the same result with all of them: basically I can boot it up to the home screen only if i detach the camera flex cable first and then reboot the phone. When the phone booted back up, I tried to open the camera app and (obviously) the front camera was not working, but the back camera is also not working.. Idk if thats normal or not?? So after I discovered both cameras weren't working, I tried plugging the flex cable back in and I got the same result in the CAMERA app, HOWEVER I opened up the facetime app and I was able to see myself through the front camera. So then I tried rebooting the phone again (this time I left the camera/sensor flex cable plugged in like normal) and I was back at the [NAND] code issue which was expected.

So my question is: how can I fix my iPhone to where both cameras are working and obviously so I don't get the [NAND] code issue?? I am thinking maybe I need to replace the BACK camera maybe? Or maybe there is a problem with the actual connector on the motherboard for the camera/sensor flex because I don't think it is the ACTUAL flex cable since I tried multiple screens each with their own front camera flex cable which I can confirm work perfectly since they came from 2-3 different phones which were all working fine (including the screen, front camera, back camera, proximity sensor, etc.)

I have an iphone 5 I bought from a 3rd party on the cheap. At the time of purchase it was working 100%. I set up the phone utilized some heavy applications just fine. About 6 hours after purchase it crashed while I was streaming music. I got the same NAND error as in the OP. Sad, but i was almost expecting this.

After rebooting a number of times it finally booted up and worked for a few days. But then, out of the blue, it crashed. Nothing was running, it was just sitting there locked.

My major question is: Can i rule out a faulty motherboard? Because it runs for perfectly well for many hours straight while doing all manner of tasks, i feel like the motherboard isn't the issue.

I've ordered a tool kit, a new front camera/flex cable and a new lock button (i broke mine will furiously rebooting). I'm hoping the new front camera/flex cable will fix the issue. I suppose it could be the compass IC. How could I tell
