My iPhone 4s will not charge

I've had my iPhone for almost 2 years now, my upgrade is due in a couple of months- so it may just be that the battery is worn out, but any alternative possible solutions would be great.

All of a sudden its just stopped charging- never had any previous problems or signs that the battery was on its last legs- just plugged it in last night and it wouldnt work. Tried 2 other charges, tried usb, all in all ive tried 4 different chargers and nothing. I've blown into it, checked for dust and it still won't work.

I'm on 19% battery and getting desperate so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got the same battery icon with 2-3 red bars on an iPhone 4S. A picture for a charger port appears below. It disappears when I plug the phone in, but it doesn't charge and the phone does not turn on.

So after reading a few a lot of postings here suggesting the dock port is faulty or dirty, I cleaned the charging port and the cable plug with a bit of cleaning alcohol and a small toothbrush. After letting it sit for 5 minutes or so, I did a reset by holding home+power (this does not wipe your data), and the phone actually turned on. If you are unlucky your dock port might be too dirty or rusted and might have to be replaced.

Yeah, the problem is probably directly related to the people who tried to repair it. It doesn't sound like you have access to an Authorized Apple Reseller near you, so I understand that that may have been your only option, but I fear you are correct in surmising that it may have just made things worse.

When they were not able to charge it up again after "fixing" it, what did they say? Not much of a fix if they left you with a phone that sometimes charged before and now doesn't charge at all.... 😟

It wouldn't hurt for you to try cleaning the ports again. Use a soft, clean toothbrush or a toothpick and see if there is any debris in the port at all. If there is, then it is possible that it might allow the ports to connect properly so that it can charge.

Since your Home button isn't working, we can't try a reset, so the port cleaning is the only thing I can think of that might help short of attempting to restore the phone. Do you have iTunes on your laptop? If you connect the iPhone to your laptop with the USB cable is is recognized at all?

Cheers,

It was just making the noise when I plugged it in and wasn't charging at all. I did a reset and that didn't do anything either. Taking it to the store was really a last resort because the phone wasn't turning on at all anyway so I didn't have much to lose. At least they got it to charge up once so I could check my messages one last time and retrieve a few bits of information. When I plug it into my laptop it is not being recognised by iTunes I've cleaned the port again but no joy. What does restoring the phone involve? I don't have a lot of things on my phone and all my photos are backed up so I don't mind wiping info. I just love to use it for Viber and WeChat and Instagram to keep in touch with home.

I think you're right, I think it must be something do with the ports. That makes sense thinking about the glitchy connection that happened right at the beginning of this issue with the little lighting sign going on and off and the iPhone dinging repeatedly. If I did manage to get it to an authorised Apple store I imagine repairing/replacing the ports would cost a fortune. But it does seem a waste to throw out an otherwise working and well cared for iPhone. I will try to get it to an authorised Apple store at some point. Just have to brace myself for the huge repair price they will quote me which basically makes it not worthwhile to repair and then we all have to buy new phones. It's the cycle of life. Thanks for your time and help on this, it's steered me away from a complete fall into bitter despair.

Try this method

First connect your phone with the charger if it open up and still no charging symbol is not visible then just press the power button to turn off the mobile remember not to remove the charger throughout the process and after sliding the power off wait for half an hour then remove the charger and see the difference your battery is gone reach some ware around 50% the longer you keep the better battery life you get but you cant connect it with your computer and it works for me on my 4s JUST try IT out
