I just bought an iphone 5C and had it sitting on a flat surface, not even touching it. I heard something looked down and the screen was cracked (3 hours after buying it). It was not dropped or impacted or under extreme heat, nothing, it just cracked, I think its poor design!
Anyone else have an issue with the screen?

If it was a design problem, we'd be seeing dozens if not hundreds of reports of this problem, and your is the first one I've seen. That doesn't mean that it might not have been an assembly fault, though. Call Apple Support or make an appointment at an Apple Store and discuss the problem with them.

Hard to believe your story. But bring the phone back to Apple and see what they say. Nothing we users here can do for you. I've not seen any other post similar to yours on this forum.
Yes, I know this is the issue, no one is going to believe the screen just cracked without any impact or reason, and honestly if I was reading this from someone else I would say 'yeah right' I was just as shocked by the experience as it is to believe thats what happened. But thats why I wanted to post the question and see if any others had the same experience.
I will try the apple store and see what they say.
iPhone screen is glass, iPhone screen sits up above iPhone frame. iPhone when placed screen down, glass touches surface of what it is resting upon. iPhone screen is glass, if it touches grain of sand or like substance it will initiate cutting of glass, scratching it or worse shattering it.
Yes, this makes sense. But it was screen up laying flat on the desk....
I took it into an Apple store where they examined it and did say it was a crack caused by a manufacturing defect in the glass!!
I just had something similar happen to me. I purchased the phone last Saturday. Today I placed teh phone in my pocket and drove home from work. When I arrived home I took the phone out of my pocket and the entire screen was cracked from end to end.
This also happened to me this afternoon. I purchased my phone 2 days ago. I haven't dropped it, and this afternoon there were 2 small cracks on the outer edges of the phone. It sounds ridiculous and the sales people wouldn't even listen, but it's true that this is happening and Apple needs to acknowledge it!
So, five minutes after you posted, you went to the Apple store, had it analyzed, and then returned home to post again? No intelligent person believes your story.

Have you never had a phone before? sounds like your fault to me.
it was a small hair line crack - it may have been my fault but as far as I know I did not bumb anything.

It took him 2 days and 5 minutes, so there was time enough to go to the store if you ask me ...
Besides from that I don't find it hard to believe that not all iPhones are without defects.
During production a lot of things can (and sometimes will) go wrong.
Just my two cents ...
Carl, Actually yes, that is exactly what happen. I bought the phone from verizon Wed morning, it broke at about noon, I went back to verzion that afternoon, they said there was nothing they could do about it. So I came on here to see if any one else had similar issues.
I took the advice from varjak pawand called customer service that afternoon, they said there was nothing they could do, but that I should take it to an Apple store so they could visually asest the damage, they scheduled me an appointment for the next day (thursday evening). So I took it, and they did say it was a manufacturing defect with the glass. and said not all scatches/damages are covered, but the way my screen was cracked was covered. Like Oskam Jr said, it was 2 days.... and I was trying to be as quick as possible since it cracked soo soon after I bought it.
Why would an intelligent person not beleive the story? Further, why would I just make all of this up??
Hi, i just got my iPhone 5c Tuesday. Today I went for a jog with it in my workout pants pocket. When I got home there was a hairline crack across my screen. I didn't drop it or anything. I'm so angry. I have an appointment with genius Saturday. Did they replace your phone for free?

Me too! The iPhone 5c is junk. But think of all the money Apple will make replacing the screens. What a scam. I'm switching back to the iPhone 4. I never had any problems with that one. Definitely a defect in design.
