How do I turn off the "cellular data is turned off for "podcasts"" message?

I keep getting this message or one like it for every app with the cellular data turned off when I am not connected to wifi. Is there a way to make this message go away like the don't show message in the future option windows gives users? I understand it probably helps users that aren't very knowledgable when it comes to using their phone but I do and it is very annoying. It was less annoying a message like it for location services but now I have to tap away the message 10 or more times a day.

You are not alone in this very annoying and stupid problem. It makes it worse when you get a equally stupid response like the one from "anilsudhakaran". This is one of those issues that no matter how many times we ask the question and show that something needs to be fixed but get nothing but silence from apple.

This particular problem is acutally become a driving hazard because you want to be able to listen to a podcast or audio book in the car but keep having to respond with more taps to this ridiculuous popup message before you can do anyhting else with the phone.

APPLE FIX THIS!

Glad to hear this!

Unfortunately I don't have the same experience; this is still a problem for me, even after today's update (using an iPhone 4s). I can't confirm that it's still a problem while using Apple's Podcast app specifically (I stopped using it!) but this intrusive popup notification still appears in a number of apps, including many of those mentioned by previous commenters...

This is, unfortunately, _not_ fixed in iOS 7.1.1 - as I can report from sad and extremely recent (just now!) personal experience. So very sorry.

"complain to Apple" time is once again your only recourse.

Somehow I think they really don't want to address this one; maybe in Cupertino they believe everyone in the whole freakin world is 4G-connected 100% of the time with an unlimited data plan. Or should be.

This is the message I sent to Apple:

Can you guys PLEASE stop with these annoying little pop-up that appear everytime I open an app that say "Cellular Data is Turned Off for "xxxxx". I have an iPhone 5S, and I use a "pay as you use" plan, so I have my data off for most apps, usually only use it for iMessage. So now, every time I open an app or a game, I get that stupid annoying message! Yes, I know I have "Data turned off"! I don't need to be reminded of it 50 times a day! Is this because the phone companies or app designers made Apple put that in, so we consumers use more data? Regardless, I am getting very tired of it and hope you fix this, ie. give us the option to turn it off.

My brother solved this one for me. I was getting that annoying message every time I turned on notes away from home. Who needs cellular data for notes anyway?

What was going on for me (and I suspect for everyone else who was getting that message for any app) was that the iPhone was attempting to sync its notes app with one on another device. I didn't want to do that - I don't do notes on any other device. Once I figured that out, I told the phone not to sync, and problem solved.

In Settings, Cellular - make sure cell data is toggled off for the app.

In Settings, Privacy, Location Services, make sure your app is toggled off.

In Settings, iCloud, make sure your app is toggled off.

Please, anyone reading this thread: Apple support does not necessarily read these discussions. You need to send feedback as noted above.

I earlier sent feedback about this annoyance. I then found this thread and can see the magnitude of the dissatisfaction with something that would appear to be so straight-forward to fix.

I play the Ruzzle game but only at home using wi-fi. Thus, the cellular data option is turned off. These messages must be acknowledged several times a day. I could defend a one-time reminder for the user when using cellular, but this makes no sense.

Perhaps the only way to resolve this is to play their game: every time you get that message, send a polite but firm feedback message to Apple.

Thanks Dennis, your instructions did help for notes (which I use a lot). Unfortunately if I lose my phone I'll lose all notes since my latest sync with my computer or by turning all the functions back on and backing up to ICloud manually. (After being plugged in and being connected to wifi of course). They don't make it easy for the novice.

Hi,

I too have just spent ages online trying to find a way to stop my iPhone constantly remind me that "Cellular Data is Turned Off"! I know it's off, because I've chosen NOT to turn it on, because I don't want any of my data being sent back to whomever is asking for it, without my express permission.

And, as suggested in this thread, I too have sent an online complaint to Apple asking them to STOP telling users that Cellular Data is Turned Off, every single time I use my apps, and which I have specifically chosen NOT to allow data to be turned on in the first place.

I sometimes wish we went back to the olden days when we only had landlines! At least they wouldn't keep pestering you every two seconds, reminding you that you're not doing something you've specifically made a decision not to do. 😟

I ran into this bug today, indeed the repeated irritating popups defeat the purpose of being able to disallow cellular data on a per app basis.

I see many apps that I would never suspect to go online pull substantial amounts of data, and the only options we have are to bite the bullet and contract a large data plan (while hoping no sensitive data, especially contacts, is being leaked by those apps) or endure the pain of constantly closing the popups.

Despite having very low expectations of being heard, I submitted feedback to Apple.

Interestingly, if you allow cellular data for an app that would otherwise show the popup and turn airplane mode on, the app/ios doesn't complain about unavailability of cellular data. By the way, if you turn off cellular data for an app that never even attempts to connect to Internet, the annoying popups still appear.

Therefore the annoying alerts are really a reminder that you turned off data for that particular app.

While I swore to never jailbreak my phone, I might reconsider this option.
