How to resolve issue with Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone iMessage. Can't receive texts from other iPhone users!!!

So I recently switched from an iPhone 4s to a Samsung Galaxy S4 and I have noticed that I am not receiving text messages from other iPhone users. I would like to know how to resolve this issue as it is very infuriating. I have tried the following things: I unregistered my iPhone, changed my apple ID password, shut off iMessage on my iPad. I cannot easily shut off iMessage on my iPhone as I traded it in and no longer have it. If I could get some assistance on this, that'd be great.

I was having the same problem. I recently moved from an iPhone 4 to a Galaxy S4 (same phone #) and all of my texts (from friends with iPhones) were still coming to my old iPhone. Once i went to my old iPhone and hit <settings-iMessage-off>, the texts started coming to my new phone.

Thanks for the advice that led me to fix this problem.

I'm not sure if you got the answer to this question, but you can go to Apple Support online and do it - even if you don't have your iphone anymore. Just sign on with your Apple ID and password and go to My Support Profile. Unregister your iphone. Then, make sure your iphone friends have SMS activated on their phones. (Under settings, messages) Good luck! I had the same problem but I think it's finally fixed.

I also did the same swich from iPhone 4S (hated the 3G) to Samsung S4 (wanted a bigger screen/phablet) Had the same text issue - yesterday I called my carrier, Verizon. Didn't get what I thought was a good answer, but it's worked so far. My iPhone user had to turn off the iMessage button he had, which turned his texts to me green and they're coming through now. However, I didn't think that was the real issue, otherwise I'd have to ask everyone with iPhones to change their settings, which didn't sound right. And, when he got his phone there was never this issue. After reading this forum and others, the first thing I tried was to unregister my iPhone. Tonight after work we'll change the iPhone's setting back to what it was, and activate the SMS button. I just tried doing that before work but I still didn't get a text, so I didn't know if there was lag time. We didn't have time to fool with it. Will let you know how it goes...

just to let you know, that didn't work. I've found further info about having to change my Apple password, and deselecting a setting in my iPhone too. The problem is I don't have the iPhone anymore. I guess I'm going to have to call either Apple, Samsung, or, hopefully not - Verizon to do the last part. I unregistered my IPhone but still can't receive the texts - they still are being sent as blue from an iPhone...I think Samsung needs to update their instruction manual for this.

Have had the same problem after swapping over to S4! after a week of trying to solve the problem...which included-

turning off imessage and signing out of Apple ID on old iphone

changing apple ID in support.apple.com

removing telephone number from Apple ID

getting Apple users to delete and re add my number,

getting apple users to turn off their imessage

the list is endless.

In the end the only way to actually solve this problem is to contact Apple support!

spent 30 minutes going through all of above (again!) for me to then ask them to remove me completely from the apple systems!

suddenly she sent me a code to my mobille number on my samsung, then removed my tel number from their system.

Problem solved.

It horrendous how difficult apple are choosing to make it! my tel no has been mine for years, yet as soon as i assosiated it with apple, it seems they basically intergrate it into their system and therefore cause you un measuable pain in trying to move to a different phone provider!!!!!

I just changed from Iphone 5 to a Galaxy S4 and have leanred that if somebody is still trying to text you and its still going thru as an iMessage then the problem is that they are using your EMAIL to send your a message and which works on apple products as we all know. What needs to be done is they need to delete the conversation and start a new one. Also need to edit the contact and make it say Mobile and not Iphone i was still trying to figure it out and removed my # and left my email linked with my ipad mini..... and still did the same thing..... So make sure they are using your PHONE NUMBER and NOT EMAIL..... Imessaging works over WiFi for iPod & iPad... and they use you apple email to send them.. So no need to call Apple and remove your #... Just make sure they are sending the text to your phone # and not your email

I think I just found a fix. My son just moved to a Samsung...grrrrr.....and NONE of our family, who all use iPhones, can text with him. We receive HIS, but he can't receive ours.

When the iPhone user sends a message to the Samsung user, send it as you usually do, BUT once the message is sent, hold your finger on the message bubble and it will give you an option of "sending as a text message".

It appears that after doing that once, the iPhone remembers it and you can text back and forth.

Not sure how this will work with a group message...still working on that. Good luck!

Yeah....but. I tried doing this and it has several drawbacks.

1. I am now limited to 160 characters/message. If I send more than that, my message will be sent in chunks.

2. I can't send/receive pictures from other iPhone users when I flip the switch from iMessage to SMS.

3. The time delay is unacceptable. I use "texts" for real time conversations. SMS' have an inherent delay of a minute or two....which is a real pain.

Hope this helps...

I have the same issue when I switched to Samsung S4, My iphone was never registered when I logged in to the support page so I could not unregister my phone. Also, I am not able to receive any messages because other iPhone users sending me messages are still sending the messages through iMessage. I had teh users delete any previous threads and delete my number and add me again...Nada!

I called my carrier they reported that it was not their problem because I am able to recieve and send text messages with other non-iPhone users. ***ANGER SETTIGN IN****

I got in contact with apple and after hours of explaining my situation they finally sent to their "Top Advisors". I did have other devices attached to my account and turned off all the iMessages. However, this made matters worse! Now users trying to send me a text get an error message sing "Non-deliverable". Thier best advice was to have the users turn- off their iMessages or have my number changed. I am a manin point of contact at my job and usually have no clue who is trying to contact me, so this is a big problem! ALSO i am not changing a phone number that I have had for 6 years.

Is this apples wrath for leaving their kingdom!

I feel trapped and also feel like they are forcing me to go back to iPhone just so i can be reachable to other iPhone users. This isnt fair and I have had this issue for over a month, this is unacceptable!

You have to take steps, as well as your friends that are iphone users.

Person who left iPhone

1. Turn off iMessage assocated with the settings of old Iphone.

2. Check any/all other apple products tied to your apple ID (Ipad/Macbook, etc...) ensure they are disassociated from that phone number.

3. Turn off "Find my phone" on old iphone device.

Friends who are still on iPhone

1. Go into settings, messages, and make sure that the send SMS message if imessage doesn't work is clicked (factory default is to ONLY send imessages}
2. Turn off imessage. text SAMSUNG (person who just migrated) via sms, turn imessage back on.

Should fix the issue.
