How to resolve issue with Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone iMessage. Can't receive texts from other iPhone users!!!

So I recently switched from an iPhone 4s to a Samsung Galaxy S4 and I have noticed that I am not receiving text messages from other iPhone users. I would like to know how to resolve this issue as it is very infuriating. I have tried the following things: I unregistered my iPhone, changed my apple ID password, shut off iMessage on my iPad. I cannot easily shut off iMessage on my iPhone as I traded it in and no longer have it. If I could get some assistance on this, that'd be great.

This is a crazy Apple problem. Seriously. Fix this. I have done all of the above and it works for MOST of my contacts. However, there is no way to KNOW if this is working as I may not be receiving some text messages from others whom I have less contact with. And the Apple rep told me this could take up to 30 days to totally deactivate my number. Seriously?! While all these tips are helpful and have worked for me so far, it is not an acutal solution. Having friends and family change THEIR settings so they can talk to ME is super inconvenient and should not be a necessary step. This should never have been a problem in the first place.

I literally just helped a friend figure this out. She switched from a Iphone 4s to the new Samsung (kept her phone number) and wasn't recieving msgs from fellow iphone users. I have an Iphone.. So I deleted her as a contact and re entered her number again as a whole new contact. Presto.. Dont change any settings for imessage or anything of the sort...get your iphone friends to delete you and start over by re adding your info as a new contact.. problem solved.. 🙂 Cheers!!!

I recently switched from an iPhone 4s to a Galaxy s4 and had the same problem. I had to ask friends and family for their iPhones, then help them turn on SMS for messages like others have mentioned. That fixed the problem of me not receiving texts.

The real issue though, is that Apple has this turned off by default and it causes many headaches. Perhaps they think if it's a hassle, everyone will only use Apple devices in the future. In my case, it may keep me from buying anything else of theirs as I feel it's a shady business tactic.

I'm sure they will tell you it is to save you money so you don't need a text plan from your carrier, but I am an AT&T customer, and unless you're grandfathered with an old plan, I think all of their plans include SMS these days.

Good luck to all still having this issue -- turning on SMS for sending messages worked for me.

I apologize about the odd style but I'm using voice rec software. I just got the Galaxy S five and I have this problem too after weeks of searching online I finally figured out the problem it is with iMessage even if you have your old phones imessage switched off. you have to get your friends to text you normally and send. If the text bubble shows up blue, press and hold choose option send as SMS or text and the bubble will change to green green means SMS blue is the iMessage so its up to the iPhone user to take literally a half of an extra step to send a text to you and if they don't do that then they're just jerks

I am having the same problem and have tried everything that every online help site and forum says. I spent an hour on the phone last night to Apple and this is still not sorted. I think it id a disgrace that Apple cannot quickly deassociated a number with imessage when youchange to Android. It feels to me like a scare tactic to encourage people not to try something new. For info I have tried the following to no avail

Changed Apple id password

Switched off imessage on other devices

Unlinked phone on Apple products account

Asked iPhone user to change my number on phone to mobile instead of iPhone

Called Apple support to ask them to remove my number from their servers

Luckily a very good customer service woman is now on the case so hopefully this will be resolved soon

Apple offers a ridiculous "solution" for a problem they created.

I recently switched from iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S5. It became clear shortly after activation that I was not receiving texts from other iPhone users.

After a quick search it became clear that the issue was with iMessage. That is, otheriPhone users were sending me texts via iMessage. While this problem appears to be widespread and my search revealed a class action lawsuit against Apple for this issue, there were no viable solutions.

In a nutshell, Apple support told me the ONLY fixes to this issues were to 1. Have all of my contacts delete our text thread and 2. Wait 45 days for iMessage to expire. This is outrageous and not a solution at all.

If you want to see screencaps of my exchange check out my blog post about it:
