There has not been a version of Internet Explorer for the Mac for a decade. Unless you are also running Windows you are spared from that disaster! 😉
Maxxou604's suggestion is the best overall option that doesn't require purchasing a PC when you already have a Mac.
As the article notes, download the free virtual machine software, VirtualBox. Then run one of the Terminal commands listed to get the version of IE you want and install it in the VM. What you end up in the VM is a very pared down version of Windows that pretty much only runs IE.
Based on my vast experience in computer hardware and software, I think we can divide different people in different categories:
1. For those people who want to run one or maybe two simple programs like Internet Explorer or Microsoft Project or Microsoft Visio (programs that do not have mac versions), Crossover is the best option.
2. For those people who use windows on a daily basis along with mac, for example, somebody who does everything on a mac but at the same time is also a database developer of Microsoft Access and Visual Basic (not to mention, Microsoft Access doesn't run on crossover), a virtualization solution is the best (so that you can run both the operating systems side by side without any need to reboot). Currently there are three most popular virtualization solutions; Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion and Oracle's Vritual Box. I have extensively used all three for Windows and Linux installations. I can tell you that Parallels Desktop is far ahead than the other two.
3. For those people who require a standalone windows installation to run graphics intensive windows programs and heavy 3D gaming (not to mention that even the ordinary Apple computers have few of the world's most powerful hardware), should opt for boot camp. Boot camp runs any version of windows as a dual boot with mac without any intereference from the mac side. With boot camp, windows can utilize the 100% resources of computer's hardware.
I hope it helps ....... 🙂
I cannot believe nobody has suggested playonmac. Its a free program that lets you run various windows applications (including Internet Explorer) through a wine wrapper. The UI is pretty easy to follow, so I won't walk through it. (and you don't have to pay for crossover) 😉
Try Wine along with WineBottler, and it'll install the version of IE you want.
Also a very good option. whenever I have an exe I want to run, I try it with wine

As the OP has explained quite clearly, he is trying to get into a website which demands IE, probably because it's using ActiveX. In this event no Mac browser will work and the only solution is virtualization (or a PC).
Note that the OP,

This is a lost thread.
Indeed. We keep digging, we're gonna find dinosaur bones... 😁
Use winebottler.kronenberg.org
Here's a youtube video about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RpW3Eyv5Ls
You are truly a live saver. With this way I was able to get into work sites on my mac I was able before. Thank you .
Which only goes to show that the site's developer is an... idiot.
He's specifically checking to make sure you're running IE, without any actual dependencies on IE itself - the page works fine in Safari and doesn't have any IE-specific hacks. Definitely worth complaining to the site owner about.
Just load this if you have a virtual software

Or if you're only concerned with the latest version you can sign up here.
I use this option when doing testing on my mac.
This worked perfectly thanks!
Thank you, this helped me!
