MacBook Air iSight camera stopped working after latest firmware update

The camera is no longer recognized by the system, but it was working just fine before the update.

It says "No video capture devices were found." at the System Information App.

I have the same issue with my MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2013) [ MacBookAir6.1 ] running macOS X Sierra (10.12.2)

Apple Hardware Diagnostic (AHD) shows the camera and no errors on the extensive testing.

System Information -> System Report ->

  • Camera : shows "No video capture devices were found."
  • Diagnostics:

Power On Self-Test:

Last Run: 2017-01-15, 11:11 AM

Result: Passed

FaceTime App shows "No camera available."

I've rest SMC, PRAM, and all the standard resettings recommended by Apple.

I just reformatted OS X and checked to see if it was something I did on software side, and yet not fixed. So if the problem is software, it's with Sierra OS X 10.12.

I just don't understand how come AHD sees the camera, but the OS X does not.

I'm this close to abandon Apple and install Microsoft windows or Unix on the machine to prove the problem is with Sierra! Very Frustrating!!!

Can anyone help?

Everyone copies and pastes the same solution (reset SMC, install upgrde for 10.8.5 which is stupid since most people updated to 10.9!!, log out and log back in, restart) all are useless!! Ever since the upgrade, facetime gives the error "No video capture devices were found." In hardware, it says no camera detected. No program which uses cam is working (Skype, Photo booth, Oovoo, etc) No one seems to have a real solution to this except to paste the same useless info from other posts - People - We need a new solution which actually works. We dont want to see the same useless suggestions again and again. PLEASE let us have something that works. Even going to the apple store is rediculous, they want to take apart the machine and make it into a hardware problem. It is not a hardware problem!!! I tried a suggestion of replacing the "AppleCamera.plugin" in /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/ with the same plugin from a backup and that also did not work. This is getting frustrating. What a mess.

I have been dealing with this problem since mid-July. I've been managing to work without the camera installed, but at this point I don't see the point in being inconvenienced to this degree. I've been trying all of the suggestions that have been posted on this thread, but to no avail. Waiting for Apple to give some help on this issue.

I have a MacBook Air

So I updated to Maverick about a month ago and my camera stopped working completely. Being foolish I thought it was my photobooth so I deleted it (and yes I emptied my trash) and now have no way of getting it back. I'm not too worried about that- my concern is that I can't take pictures from facebook/twitter/tumblr/skype...

Then I went to my manage settings in chrome under media settings and it turns out my camera is not even listed as something that works... So I need help please.

1) How do I get my camera working?

2) Is there a way to get photobooth back?

I've got an mbp from 2008 with "no camera detected" under camera or USB section of the system report with 10.9.1. But when I boot from my old USB disk with Lion on it, the camera is detected.

Resetting SMU and PRAM didn't fix anything. Repairing permissions didn't help. It must be some software problem or conflict.

Definitely not a camera hardware problem.

Back in 2008 I switched from MS to MAC to flee troubles like this.

Maybe it's my fault for upgrading to Mavericks so early. I'm in too far to go back to Lion. Bummer.

After installing the Mavericks update I've got no camara detected also.

-I've been on the Phone with apple 2 times already.

-I've reset PRAM

-reset SMC

-Tested it in a new user.

-Reistalled Mavericks fresh and the situation is still the same.

*Still reads no camara detected.

I'm going to call apple and push hard for them to fix this at their expence. I followed their recomendation for the software update and their update broke their machine. Any stories of success yet?
