MacBook Air iSight camera stopped working after latest firmware update

The camera is no longer recognized by the system, but it was working just fine before the update.

It says "No video capture devices were found." at the System Information App.

I have the same issue with my MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2013) [ MacBookAir6.1 ] running macOS X Sierra (10.12.2)

Apple Hardware Diagnostic (AHD) shows the camera and no errors on the extensive testing.

System Information -> System Report ->

  • Camera : shows "No video capture devices were found."
  • Diagnostics:

Power On Self-Test:

Last Run: 2017-01-15, 11:11 AM

Result: Passed

FaceTime App shows "No camera available."

I've rest SMC, PRAM, and all the standard resettings recommended by Apple.

I just reformatted OS X and checked to see if it was something I did on software side, and yet not fixed. So if the problem is software, it's with Sierra OS X 10.12.

I just don't understand how come AHD sees the camera, but the OS X does not.

I'm this close to abandon Apple and install Microsoft windows or Unix on the machine to prove the problem is with Sierra! Very Frustrating!!!

Can anyone help?

My issue for built-in camera is not persistent, however whenever I need the camera feature it showed the frustrating "no-built in camera" signals.

I leave in the U.S. and my parents are overseas, I need to use skype to contact them frequently. Whenever the problem incurred I went to Apple store the next day, the camera worked properly at the store like nothing happened. Some of the hardware parts have been replaced in my mac but it seems to me the problem still resisted. so stubborn!

This issue just cropped for my macbook air 2012 13inch. Never had isight problem before in Mavericks or previous OS X version. I can't say that the update caused the issue for sure, but as far as I can tell after the 10.9.4 update my isight is intermitently recognized (mainly not). I have tried everything listed on forums here with no luck. Yesterday I thought it was a hardware issue for sure, but today I opened from sleep and it worked in FaceTime and photobooth and was recognized in system profiler! However, after reopening FaceTime it appeared dead again. Restarted, tried all previous troubleshooting and nothing. Now I don't know whether the issue is software or hardware. Disappointed with Apple in either case.
