iPhone5 shuts down at 20%-30% battery since new IOS7 was installed

Ever since I installed the new IOS 7 operating system the day it premiered, not only do I have battery issues in which it drains quickly (seems to be a common occurrence) but now if I am using the phone (app, imsg, etc) when it gets down to about 30%, sometimes 23% the phone completely shuts off as if it was at 0% battery life (I say that exact number because it's been at exactly 23% on a few occasions where the phone shut off). The icon pops up that looks like a drained battery with an indication to plug it in, and when I plug it in the phone turns itself on immediately and then works fine. I was told to reset it, hard reset it etc, all of which I tried and to no avail. I have spoken with someone from Apple and they are telling me I need a new battery. The phone is just over a year old (so of course, they won't cover the battery replacement even though the issue started about two weeks ago and it's now two weeks past it's 1 year warranty), and I highly doubt it's a coincidence that the battery is suddenly acting up after the new operating system update. Is anyone having this same issue? Helpful comments would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Samething than your troubles, Mine is Iphone 5 with last ios7.04 and he's shut down arround 25-30%.

I'm tired too use itunes and if you add a trouble of battery on the top and didn't give us a solution,

I will be the next on Samsung. I'm glad too tell that, because I prefer the apps on ios, but...

It's obvious apple don't read this discussion. I requested support on the apple site and then clicked 'exception' to avoid paying the rip off £25. I got thru to a service person and he said apple engineers are aware of the problem. I didn't believe him so he emailed the engineers himself and sent me a copy. All of us need to do the same. Posting on here won't change anything. Complain directly and get them to send correspondence to the engineers. They can't even guarantee the issue will be fixed in the next update 7.1 we need to keep the pressure on otherwise they won't sort this!

Yes. It shows up as bad battery but it's not. It's a software issue. If it was a bad battery it wouldn't reboot and read the same percentage as it was when it shut down. Also it's connected to ios7. It never happened before iOS 7. Don't let them fob you off with a new battery or phone. It won't solve the root problem

Did anyone try this? (I got it from another topic.) I will try it when it runs down again and keep you updated.

What you need to do given your current problem: When the phone shuts off and it isn't down around 1%, connect to a charger for just a minute or 2, or wait 15 minutes, then reboot the phone (hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears). Continue running the battery down until it shuts off around 1%. If it goes off above that value repeat the above process until you really do get to 1% (this will rarely take more than 2 tries).

Once it has turned off and won't restart or reboot charge it with the wall charger for 4 hours without using the phone. This should fix the problem for the moment. Going forward, about once a month run the battery all the way down and charge for 4 hours. This should prevent the problem from recurring.

If this does not work your battery may be failing. As it's still in warrantly take it to an Apple store for repair.

This is EXACTLY my problem and it's a software problem. I had NO PROBLEMS until I updated. It's insanity at best. I'm getting very upset. At first I think Apple is working on the problem then I hear the rest of the comments and don't believe they are--period.
Dammit!!!

I had the iPhone 3, 3GS, 4, and now 5. and now I'm very, very annoyed. Grrrrrrrr

I had the same issue it started shutting down at around 30 to 40% and of course it very conveniently started doing this to weeks after my warranty expired and after about four times I chatted with Apple and requested an exception the gentleman said technically it wasn't allowed but they made me do a diagnostic check by sending a link to the phone and they saw that there was a power issue and since I have many Apple devices he spoke to a supervisor and they authorized an exception and told me to go to the store. I went to the Fifth Avenue 24 hour store around 4 AM and I got a nice guy who said technically he should take the phone and for a couple days and just switch the battery but he did me a favor and just swapped out for one of the phones and those white boxes I don't know if it's refurbished or not.

However lo and behold just two weeks later I'm now having the same issue with my phone into the diagnostic check again and it says the same issue and I requested an exception from Apple saying the repair was just done and they only offered to send me the overnight box that's empty and I have to send my phone back so they're leaving me without a phone for about a week that's some service Apple.

I'm still holding onto it because I really don't have the ability to be without a phone and I can't make it out to the Apple Store anytime soon. I have an iPhone five and it also started up for me after updating to iOS seven which I delayed until just about a week before this started happening in January so I don't for a fact it wasn't a hardware issue since it was perfect on iOS 6 and iOS 7 is incredibly buggy and everyone I spoke to including a senior support technician said they had heard nothing about this and they said that if it is the same issue I won't be charged for the repair when I send my phone back.

Just my two cents but I have the original MacBook Pro and I drop that thing a bunch of times and it's been through **** and it's still going strong seven years later but everything of apples that I bought since has been just crap and is like everything else which is built to fail on you so you have to buy a new one, this includes my mid-2009 MacBook Pro which had multiple hardware issues including A complete failure of the logic board and hard drive and trackpad and battery all in one night in two weeks before one of my licensing exams for having had the AppleCare I would've been screwed but the kicker is I had the tiniest dent in the corner which had nothing to do with it and I had to plead with Apple to repair the computer because they said it was likely accidental damage and they ended up doing A tier 3 replacement which was $1400 which they waved which is pretty ludicrous considering I paid 1800 for the laptop two years before the issue happened plus the 350 for AppleCare.

I have the same problem as well. At about 26% my phone shuts down. It tells me I need to connect my phone to the charger but I press the power button again and it turns on. But soon, the percentage plummets down really quickly (26% - 17% - 2%) and it finally shuts down. Really worried cause I love this phone, I wouldn't want a battery problem to cause a phone replacement.

Hey all.

I took my phone to the Apple store. The genius verified that the battery was jacked and it had actually expanded. They gave me a new phone. He did say that they take care of this particular issue for 3 years regardless of warranty/applecare. This is great news because my wifes iphone is doing the exact same thing and was 2 months out of warranty.

Summary- take your phone to an Apple store. It's likely a jacked battery.

iPhone5 shuts down at 20%-30% battery since new IOS7 was installed
