iPhone contacts missing - no names, only numbers

There are reports of iPhone contacts suddenly missing -- showing only numbers, no names (except for Facebook contacts).

Anyone have a fix?

Try this first: Enter a random number like 555-555-1212 and send a text to it. Then add that as a contact. If you're like me, immediately after adding that number as a contact all of your other contacts will suddenly return. I know it's random, but after nothing else worked I gave it a shot - and in 10 seconds I was back to normal.

Good luck!

It sort of worked for me. I just added the name to one of the unnamed people on my favorites list and then all the other names started appearing again. I also had to verify my account and sign up with iCloud again. I don't think I am going to so easily update my phone again. I just spent 2 hours trying to figure it out.

Or what I did was I used one of the numbers in my text messages that I knew and tried to add their contact. It then prompted me for my icloud account password and loaded all my contacts again.

Some of the advice has stated to make sure your contacts is "on" in your settings but for my case even when they were shown "on" my contacts didn't load. Doing the above or if you're lazy and don't want to enter a random number work as well!
