iPhone contacts missing - no names, only numbers
There are reports of iPhone contacts suddenly missing -- showing only numbers, no names (except for Facebook contacts).
Anyone have a fix?

I had this problem after restoring a backup onto my new phone. I found that my Outlook (Hotmail, actually) account wasn't connected to my Contacts on my phone, so I added it back. Even though I had connected my account to Mail (Settings>Mail>Accounts>Add Account), when I checked the Contacts screen in Settings only my iCloud account was connected and not my Outlook account.
So try this:
Settings>Contacts>Accounts>Add Account
Make sure the Contacts switch is turned on.
Just ask Siri to restore your contacts. It worked for me.
Hey I tries toggling the iCloud contacts on and off, but still no help:( I am desperate to get this sorted. I have about 1000 odd contact and most of them are work related!! Someone please help
No luck with that either. I am sitting duck as of now:( Dont know what to do. Most of my work contacts were on the phone and I cant seem to sort it out:( I have about 1000 odd contacts, out of which almost half are saved as just numbers now, and there are others with the contact names sawed off(Partial names). I tried toggling the contacts on and off in gmail and i cloud and still no result:(
THIS RIGHT HERE IS GOLD. thank you for solving this, i literally tried every thing else that other people suggested and i was about to give up. Bravo son. Bravo.
I have this issue as well, here is my story thought:
I eventually linked my iCloud account to my iPhone, at that point I lost all of my contacts. Here is what i have:
So somewhere on my phone, there is a memory of the names associated with the number, but its not in contacts. Any help with this guys?
So none of this worked for me at first. I had to go to iCloud, retype in my password. Then toggle off contacts. Then go back and retype in my password again. Then toggle contacts back on. Then my contacts slowly came back. Weird. Hope this helps someone else.
I had the same issue. Tried all of the above tricks to no avail. Then I remembered that I had deleted an exchange email account that I no longer use. Some how all my contacts got imported to that email account. I then reinstalled the email account to my phone and voila, all the information returned. I don't know how all my contact info got connected to that email account or why none of it was in any of my contacts folders (desktop, icloud, laptop), but they are back and I am happy. Now to figure out how to make sure they are in my Contacts Folder on my desktop, icloud, etc......
I tried everything!! I reset phone, confirmed iCloud was on(several times). And then after accepting defeat, I added a brand new contact that was not previously in my address book, and then BAM...instantly all names reappeared!
You are right about that. Same thing happened to me. I added back the deleted exchange email and all the contacts got synced in again. Thank for enlightening me.
To get the Contacts sync'd to iCloud, sign out of iCloud on one of your iDevices. One of the dialogue boxes that will come up when you sign out is whether or not you want to delete or keep your Contacts on the phone. Click on "Keep". Then sign back into iCloud. It will ask if you want to Merge your Contacts. Merge them.
Once you have done that, they will all be on iCloud and you should then be able to delete the Exchange account. You can verify that they are on iCloud by going to iCloud.com on a computer and clicking on Contacts. You should see all of them there. If they are there, then you can safely delete the Exchange account.
Cheers,

thanks for this. I did the same by deleting the exchange account on the phone and installed the exchange app. When I checked for the contacts within the app they are all there.. thanks again
YES!!!! I just deleted an exchange account and disappeared were my contacts. I put that exchange account back in and rebooted phone. Contact names restored. BAM!
Try this first: Enter a random number like 555-555-1212 and send a text to it. Then add that as a contact. If you're like me, immediately after adding that number as a contact all of your other contacts will suddenly return. I know it's random, but after nothing else worked I gave it a shot - and in 10 seconds I was back to normal.
Good luck!
