iPhone contacts missing - no names, only numbers

There are reports of iPhone contacts suddenly missing -- showing only numbers, no names (except for Facebook contacts).

Anyone have a fix?

I had this problem after restoring a backup onto my new phone. I found that my Outlook (Hotmail, actually) account wasn't connected to my Contacts on my phone, so I added it back. Even though I had connected my account to Mail (Settings>Mail>Accounts>Add Account), when I checked the Contacts screen in Settings only my iCloud account was connected and not my Outlook account.

So try this:

Settings>Contacts>Accounts>Add Account

Make sure the Contacts switch is turned on.

Or what I did was I used one of the numbers in my text messages that I knew and tried to add their contact. It then prompted me for my icloud account password and loaded all my contacts again.

Some of the advice has stated to make sure your contacts is "on" in your settings but for my case even when they were shown "on" my contacts didn't load. Doing the above or if you're lazy and don't want to enter a random number work as well!
