Sore, itchy, red eyes !

I received my black MB2 a week ago and i was absolutely stunned by the design, OSX and look. Since i started using it, i noticed my eyes always getting tired after 1-2 hours of usage.
Comparing side by side with my Toshiba 15.4", the font On Mac is blurry/greyish/unclear and the colors are faded compared to the Toshiba.

The screen on the Toshiba is so alive compared to the Mac, the other one looks dull and faded ...

Anyone else with similar issues ?
PS: I know i can use the font smoothing and Color profiles to adjust, but can not get any closer to my Toshiba.

Hey Jorel.

I ain't toting the Mac line here but I didn't see that much of a difference if any other than different fonts at all.

To test another theory I did a screen capture with one picture at full brightness and one at half brightness. They both looked identical. So I don't think we are getting the full effect of the difference you are describing. You say you see a big difference I believe you. The problem is that it is hard to show someone without actually showing them the MacBook display against the Toshiba display and not screen captures.

i would have to say that the MB screen looks better
to me...

Wow ... There must be some magic forces at play. I guess sight is really subjective, just like hearing is. i work in the field of speech coding for wireless systems and there too listenners provide different quality of experience scores. I thaught vision was more refined !

I guess one solution is not to use my Toshiba XP anymore, and live in the Mac world 😉 and enjoy my new toy by doing more Photoshoping than surfing hte web 🙂

I can see where your coming from, the toshiba display fonts are more "discrete" making it easier to tell characters apart whilst the MB display fonts are "smoothed" and can seem like characters are mushed up together.

Personally i couldn't use the Toshiba display like that there has to be some sort of smoothness for me which is why i always used "clear type" fonts while i still used windows.

In the end i'd use both displays easy simply because i can adapt fairly easily.

I think you're not used to the anti-aliasing used in fonts on Mac OS X. Once you do get used to it though, it's way better on the eyes than what Windows uses. However I think there is an option in Windows XP (ClearType?) which, when enabled, makes the fonts anti-aliased.

But according to those screenshots, the MB is way better I think. The Toshiba is all pixelly fonts and such.

Also, Safari renders pages nicer than Firefox IMO, I'd suggest using that.

Firefox on Windows, Safari on Mac 😀

Hi Jorel,
Just my 2 cents here. While I do not agree with you 100% that the display on the TOshiba is better, I will say that in the screen shots the Toshiba picture is rendered better. But, as soemone has said already, web sites look MUCH better on a Mac in Safari than they do in Firefox. I for one, can not STAND to look at the Apple Discussions web site using anything other than Safari. Even on my moms HP LCD at her office, using Firefox the discussions don't look bad, but they don't look nearly as good as with Safari.

My advice, go try out Safari for a while, I think you will like it. While Safari doesn't work too well on some sites, on most it is amazing. Hope this helps.
