I have had the same issue after the new update to iTunes , I have a macbook air though.. I went and bought a new usb cable but, iTunes won't recognize that the iPhone is plugged in but the iPhone is charging.. Weird.. hopefully a new update will fix it..
iTunes updates are unlikely to resolve the issue.
No cable can resolve the issue as there is not and was never a cable issue if the device is charging and recognized by the OS.
If you have a Mac, why are you posting to the iTunes for Windows forum or looking for answers here?
The issue is with the computer or the installation of iTunes on the computer.
II'm not looking for help! I actually figured it out! after the new iTunes update my phone didn't trust my computer anymore. I reset my network settings and then added them back. Connected it to my computer and it asked do you want to trust this computer. I clicked trust and bam!! Itunes now finds it!! So NO I'm not needimg help just was making a statement that it happened on both a pc and a Mac!! Settings- general- reset - reset network settings. Then added it back. AAnd no it wasn't with the installation of iTunes!!
I hope they fix it soon. Once I updated my itunes it wouldn't recognize my device. None off the Apple Support could help.
There is nothing for Apple to fix and no reason to dig up this old thread.
READ the entire thread and follow the troubleshooting steps already provided.
I'm not exactly how you can say that this is not an Apple problem. We are almost 1 year out and this issue STILL exists. I along with others that have posted have already tried all of that and it doesn't work. It is not a Windows issue is is an iTunes issue.
After a long time i found why i had the exact same problem. When the ipad was connected, my pc (windows 10) used to find it as an external storage drive but without the correct drivers, it was just a usb device and it didn't use the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver (AMDUD). I could see it in the Device Manager that the pc didn't use the AMDUD. So first of all i had to find a way to make it use the AMDUD. I found in a forum the following steps.
1. Go to Device Manager
2. Locate your Apple device (mine was under Portable Devices. It's very possible it's somewhere else for you.)
3. Right click it and select "Update Device Driver."
4. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Devices\Support\Drivers and select that folder
5. Hit next. The driver should install and you'll see "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" under the "Universal Serial Device USB Driver" section in Device Manager.
Boom, there it is, my ipad appeared in the itunes.
Yes. Exactly. You saved me a thousand hours of frustration. Excellent work.
