How to locally sync an iPhone with OS X Mavericks? iCloud is NOT an option.

I read that OS X Mavericks will no longer allow me to use iTunes to sync my iPhone to a local system but makes iCloud mandatory? Is that correct?

iCloud is not a valid option for me since I have no control about my data there, I need to keep all my data (contacts, calendar...) on a system under my control and so far iTunes allowed me to do that which was one of the reasons I didn't even consider Android or Windows Phone.

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

What's odd to me is how Apple did it - no interim alternative and no public communication.

To be fair, the lack of public communication is not that odd for Apple. In general they tend to have an "ignore it and hope it goes away" attitude. Although since Steve died, they do seem to have opened up a little and released public statements for a few issues such as the aforementioned iWorks and FCPX debacles...

To answer my own post. I as you all knows I use OSX server but I like SyncMate and if it had Notes in it I would stick with SyncMate. I have not found a soulation that sync's Notes like (as easy) as the older OSX. So I am sorry to say that if not for anything else I'll use the Mavericks system (if it do's come back) for Notes.

I'm not sure, if I understand you right -

It means you have found a solution to sync Notes (not using iCloud?), even in a bit complicated way?

Could you tell me this way, I'm missing this feature too since switching from 10.6 > 10.8/10.9. On which OS are you currently working?

Thanks in advance -

If the next updates toiTunes and OS X have the SyncServices back. Will people who use SyncMate switch back to 100% Apple?

Yes, I would. Eltima guys need our support and we should keep them around in case Apple changes their “design” again. If SyncMate would add bookmarks, reminders, notes syncing then even better. It just bugs me that Apple would bring changes back to only calendar and contacts, just as SyncMate was planning to do, and at about the same time... Hm…

Maybe it's called competition? I would use the Mac option before forking out $40 to a third party developer. But I won't do either, as iCloud's security and encrypment is superior anyway. As I think the majority that want local sync back will do.

Cheers

As you know I run OSX on my network and it douse not have to be on the internet(NOT connected to the internet/no modem/_DSL) this runs a mail server for domain "local" each the 3 machines on the network as it own IP (192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3 and 192.168.1.4). The first one 192.168.1.2 is the mail-server and has a user setup "notes" with email address of "notes@local". I add this user to each machine as a Notes and mail user.

All this mean is that I can email my "notes" to "notes@local" and they appear in my mail program on each machine under imap account "Notes@local"

The pages I am putting togever to help with this. There are other links on the list as well.

I hope all of this helps

Question if any one is not sending data on a outside network (using USB) and not connected to the internet when this is done, why would anyone need to encrypt it? asouming that this would not help if my laptop or phone was stolen.

I thought the post was odd too. We're talking sans iCloud so I wasn't sure what difference 'encrypment', (whatever that means), might make.

"encrypment" is not a word but you know what encrypt means, :-) I know you do "convert (information or data) into a cipher or code, esp. to prevent unauthorized access."

superior? you can have the most superior security, if the law forces Apple to hand over the information, then you're out of luck pal.

Same go's for anyone in the US and UK(I don't know about other countrys I belive there are some that need a court order). If the Govement ask for the information they can get it esp if they suppect a crime.

I don't have anything to hide. Do you? USB sync will be back. I don't carry my laptop with me everywhere I go through the country, so I am happy with iCloud. As for TopSteves posts, he's just cranky that his 'blog' will be of no use any more. Not that it really was beforehand.

Sorry about the misspelling of encryption, that's the stupid spell check on this HTC they gave me for work.

Your prayers have been answered but the same handful of trollers still need this thread to sound of some importance.

Cheer up
