no sound when recording videos with iphone 4s - ios7

Same problem as most of those above: mic and speaker work fine for everything except recording video. Up to date iPhone 4 with iOS 7.1.

I had this same problem. After watching many youtube clips of people telling me to clean various mic ports, I found something relevant. Somebody was cleaning their dock! Sounds stupid, but apparently if a pin is shorted or something of the sort it may turn off different components. This person could not play any sound. All I did was plug in the charger...Wiggle it...just a little bit...(sorry couldn't help it)...and I could record sound on the video recorder again.

A simple reboot solved my sound issue while recording video.

I think if you recorded with Bluetooth enabled, you're hosed. All you get is video and the audio never recorded in the first place.

I turned Bluetooth off and I was good to go. But 2 really cool concert vids I took a few weeks ago are mute. 😠

This is really sad coz I recorded some great footage at a concert last night, only to wake up and find my bluetooth turned on and all my videos recorded with no sound :'(

Is there absolutely no way to try to get some sound?

Today something that I had planned for a very looong time happened in my life an dI THOUGHT I filmed it. Guess what? NO SOUND.

I am soooooooo disappointed.

So many updates and nothing.

Same problem (no sound on video recording!!) since more than 2 months.

Hint:

When I connect Air Plug and then record video it works fine! however, without it a Hizzzz sound !!!

I had the same problem with my 4s and after trying all the tricks in the book, it still didn't work. Plugging in headphones with a mic attachment let me record sound as it used the mic from the headphones and not of the actual devices. Best solution I had was taking it to the nearest apple store and having them replace the device. They work off reservation so make sure you call ahead or go to their site, my phone was out of warranty so I had to pay but they gave me a new phone same model.

I was having the EXACT same problem as everyone else: sound comes out fine for everything EXCEPT video playback. Pippymint nailed it. Try going into your swipe setting...from the bottom of the screen up and turn the volume up there. It worked for me! I even test ran a few videos and heard my creepy voice. Do it now!

I had the same problem, looked at all the fixes on the internet, but the only thing that worked for me was to reboot the phone

I had the same problem on an iphone 4 I'd just upgraded from IOS6 to IOS7. Weirdly it would record with no sound if I accessed the camera from the lock screen, but recorded with sound if I accessed it when already unlocked.

Reboot fixed it for me.
