ios 7 does not sync with itunes via WIFI

Since loading IOS 7 I am unable to sync to itunes over WFI. I must connect via usb to my computer.

I have the option sync with WIFI selected on itunes but it seems to make no difference.

Does anyone have any work around?

After some hours of searching and making some tweaks on ATH.EXE file (windows user), I can make some conclusions:

1- Running ATH.exe file as administrator (or making it on changes for everyone)and start iTunes normally syncs my ipad always BUT only reads data/apps/musics/photos/every file. I can't write to iPad for example trying delete or install any app TO iPad never worked. The proof is the disk space status bar, just shows "others" (yellow bar)and a fixed left space, never change it wherever I do. (Not shows music, photos, apps coulor bar)

2- Running ATH.exe file normally (without previleges, uncheking administrator option) and start iTunes as an administrator, seems doesn't work. Find the ipad but never handles the link and always loses the connection.

3- Start iTunes and ATH.exe with or without administrator previleges, don't work either.

Is important to notice that Step 1 consumes a lot of cpu resources, windows or iTunes are always making a lot of ATH.exe processes (showed gray out).

After many tries I could synced normally but temporarelly, losing the connection.

Hi, this may be a bit too late but after months if not years I have managed to get my wifi sync working with my win 7 pc. I have bt home hub 4 (which has dual band 2.4 and 5 MHz wifi signal.

I looked at loads of solutions. None of them worked for me. I had tried amending the firewall settings, amending deleting and reinstalling antivirus settings on the basis that something kept 'blocking' my iphone from syncing with the pc. I had fiddled with ipv6 settings, had previously closed and restarted itunes related services via task manager - all to no avail!

My itunes would (for the first 3 or 4 seconds) connect as the iphone name appeared and the dots swirled to show it was connecting. At this time in iphone general wifi sync settings the text would go blue as if ready to sync. But then would grey out - not connected after all. My only option was to sync via the usb cable.

Here are the changes I made and eventually (months of fiddling) I'm completely up and running!!

This is in no particular order and apologies this is from memory... Some of these steps will be completely not applicable but wanted to document everything I did.

1) I changed the name of my computer via control panel - I also reset and renamed the workgroup. I also changed the name of my iphone (whilst wired connected to itunes).

2) after amending loads of windows firewall settings I eventually reset to default! This prompted a number of programmes to warn me it was 'blocked' and I had to 'accept' these programmes and automatically amend firewall from blocking.. I'll come to this later.

3) uninstalled and reinstalled my antivirus. All back to default settings.

4) ran a free registry cleaner... It deleted a number of incomplete items such as firewall commands that were not applicable.

5) reinstalled Itunes - manually installed 'bonjour' again. By downloading and unzipping itunes and clicking bonjour only. This guaranteed that it was installed and working.

6) (still didn't work at this point but here's where it all changed! I amended my router set up. Firstly I had two different names for the different wifi bands. 2.4 named different to 5 MHz because I only had my iphone 5 connecting to the 5mzh. This was for better wifi connectivity. I reset and ensured upnp etc was set to on. I then under the 5mhz settings menu I ticked the option for each band to share the same name etc. I still have 2 band wifi with the recommended security settings etc. But the name only appears one in my wifi settings now! (I forget the exact options but something like 'sync the two bands together' or similar.

7) I clicked on itunes settings to share files music etc on my home workgroup (not that I have a workgroup- no other pc's etc) but after clicking this a warning appeared that never popped up before saying "FIREWALL IS BLOCKING SHARING- do you want to amend firewall and allow sharing' or similar words. - that's the first time that ever appeared and due to resetting firewall to default settings.

8) STILL DIDNT WORK- then I rebooted my home hub. Unlike normal it too AGES to reboot. The lights on the wifi went yellow and flashed, after 2 or 3 attempts it connected to my iphone and I put the password etc in again to connect.

9) shut down pc rebooted and oh my god... Ever since wifi sync has worked. I booted up itunes... Normal swirling dots but this time my iphone name STAYED. I pressed sync and it worked! I have done this each day for the last few weeks and it works perfectly. Not sure which of the above fixed my issue but I'd guess it was wifi router settings and the resetting of my firewall that prompted the new rules to be applied.

Just hope this helps other people!

To G3R3N

This worked for me except when I went to System Preferences -Network, I already had two locations: Automatic and Home. When I switched to back and forth and clicked Apply each time, sync started working immediately. It is like something was locked up and switching back and forth and clicking Apply each time broke something loose and everything was working again.

Had same problem. Solved by UNCHECKING "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" in Summary tab in iTunes.

Actually my iphone was now showing up in itunes AND "Sync Now" option in Itunes Wifi Sync in Iphone (Setting > General > Itunes Wifi Sync) was greyed out. But after unchecking "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" option the Sync Now button on Iphone was activated and i was able to sync through wifi.

Hope this helps

Thanks

Thanks for all these contributions... adding a new location AND switching on WiFi on the Mac, helped.

What puzzles me is this: why do I HAVE to have WiFI switched on, on the Mac that runs iTunes... and

does WiFi syncing only work then... even if the Mac is also connected by wire to the router and

is Ethernet set as a higher priority than WiFi? Is iTunes checking for 'WiFi on' on the Mac and only searches

for iPad/iPhone through the WiFi connection (and all the rest is, hopefully, going through the Ethernet connection?).

****

Edit: ah, when it is in the process of syncing and you (well, I) switch WiFi off on the Mac, it still continues and remains

available through the Ethernet connection. So it must only be pedantic about it at certain moments...

****

That is weird... the fact that you flag 'sync using WiFi' in iTunes should really pertain to your wish to yes/no

sync from iPad and iPhone without having to connect it to the computer. But it should be able to do this

as long as you are on the same network/LAN.

The reasons this annoys me is that I don't want to have to have my Mac's WiFi on all the time when it is

connected through Ethernet...

Anyway... hope the folks at Apple will fix this silly bug (amongst others in iTunes by the way).

Have a great day, all of you.

Thanks demp53y,

I have been annoyed for quite some time with the unreliable wireless syncing. After reading your post the item that stands out was the upnp router setting. Without trying anything else at all, i went into the router settings and enabled upnp. A reboot of the router wasn't necessary. I then turned on/off the wireless connection on the iphone (5s) and now it connects and stays connected. Previously it would hold a connection for anywhere between 2 seconds and 2 minutes. 100% caused by upnp being disabled.

Thanks for your help
