Older iWork´09 and iLife´11 versions - updates to newer versions not free?

Hey everyone,

I know the question is worded a little weird (I couldn't find a better to describe that) but I'm confused about the new updates for both mentioned programs. According to Apple the new apps are free if you buy a new Mac or iDevice. But what if I bought iWork ´09 and iLife ´11 back when both were still available on CD? I bought iWork´09 back when it was released and iLife´11 in June 2011. Updating to the latest versions were not a big deal, the "older" versions work perfectly with Mavericks.

When I check for software updates it says there are no updates and all these apps are available to buy via the MAS.

Do people have to buy these apps (again) if you want to use the latest versions? What if someone bought an older version via the MAS - do they have to buy these apps again as well?

I hope someone can clarify certain things.

Thanks in advance.

Can you confirm that you had the original DVD apps installed and not the MAS apps...?

You see the problem is, originally it relates to not haviong these apps listed on the MAS, because we all bought hardcopy installers... Therefore, regardless of how, what, where or wy, if the apps are not in your installed list on MAS then they wont be recognised as updatable...?

If you could confirm it would be appreciated. As this suggestion hasn't worked for me?

Thanks.

Do it like this,

1 - Change your system language to English (erase your's default, let English be the only language, add it after you install the updates)

2 - Change your location to United States

3 - Restart, and then enter MAS.

With some hope that is all you're gonna have to do.

I hope this fixes it for you, as it was getting on my nerves too. So i now what you feeling man! Don't give up, and most important, DON'T BUY THEM AGAIN! ahahahahaha

Hi,

I just upgraded successfully to OS X Maverick. But iPhoto and iMovie did not upgrade at all.

I tried manually with App Store by entering my Apple ID and password. But there is an error saying that the Apple ID is wrong and iPhoto and iMovie were not purchased with the Apple ID that I typed (I think I installed them with iLife DVD that I got with my iMac).

Would it be possible to explain to me a solution ?

Thank you very much !
