iWork purchased on disc in 2011. Why can't I upgrade free?

I bought iWork on disc at BestBuy with my MBP in 2011. But when I click on Pages, Numbers or Keynote in the App store I get the message, "Pages 4.3 is already installed but was not purchased on the App store. Would you like to purchase? $19.99"

Why can't I upgrade? I did buy it, but at the time it was not even AVAILABLE in the app store.

OS X Mavericks (10.9)

This was settled long ago. The DVD versions are not the MAS versions. The MAS will never recognize the purchase of the DVD versions. It was long established that to jump from DVD versons to MAS version would be a purchase.

Then I'm not sure why you are even here. The apps are free only to someone who has bought a new Mac since 1 OCT.

For the final time, these iWork apps are not being updated, which is free. They are being upgraded, which is always paid. The exception is if you bought a new Mac since 1 OCT.

I don't know if I am alone here, but I would like Dahveed to respond now that iWork '09, iLife and Aperture purchased on DVD has been recognised by MAS and free upgrades are available.

Where did you get the <<information>> which allowed you to respond as you have done on this topic in various threads dotted around discussions.apple.com?

Dah*veed has been suffering from a somewhat painful malady and has admitted himself that he is on some medication that has clouded his mind just little bit. He was not the only person making theses statements either, as I was seeing some other very knowledgable forum members claiming the very same thing that he was claiming about the DVD versions of the iWorks apps not being eligible for the upgrade.

I have been hanging around these forums for a while now, and Dah*veed has been of great help to many users, myself included. I would give the guy a break in light of his current circumstances. I am politely suggesting that you download the upgrades, be happy that we DVD/iWorks users are able to do so, and just let it go.

Very happy to do as you suggest.

I was delighted by the bonus offered me by MAS after my Mavericks upgrade today; and have already taken advantage of the application software.

I've been hanging around the forums for a while; but only infrequently. I have participated in previous threads where <<very knowledgable forum members>> have assured me and others it is impossible for MAS to recognise DVD purchases.

All we can be certain about someone with a high post count is that they post a lot.

I was making false assumptions based on how Apple had handled the boxed software up until just yesterday. I apologize for misleading and upsetting so many folks.

But what you can be assured of is that when someone has a high user level, they have been awarded points, 5 and 10 at a time, for solutions that usually have been helpful and successful for many folks.

Yeah, be patient. They appear to be coming along slowly.

That said, after I did my own moaning and complaining that my updates weren't showing up, when they finally did I realised I was moaning about nothing. I can't imagine anyone will be happy with the new iWork. I'm really glad my iWork '09 folder was left untouched. The ability to easily interface with the iWork Web apps is the only reason I can think of to upgrade. In every other way I've so-far noticed, functionality has been stripped from the OSX versions of the apps to make them more compatible and on feature-parity with the iOS versions.

Those of you who've not yet seen your upgrades, either be patient, they are coming, or count your blessings 🙂
