Swipes in Safari stop working

When using Safari in Mavericks, I can scroll up and down as usual with the 2-finger gestures, but if I try to do a 2-finger "back" swipe to go to the previous page that page freezes (can't scroll at all, no links respond and if try to click on the back/forward button, the page title and URL changes, but the page is still frozen as it was). I can go to another tab and navigate with the arrow keys, but all trackpad gesturing within Safari stops working. When I quit and relaunch Safari, all is back to usual. I deleted all Safari extensions, deleted all preference files, deactivated/reactivated the gesture in System Preferences and still acts the same. Any thoughts?

If your other finger gestures are still working, then the reason why Three Finger Swipe seems to stop working and work only on occasion is because:

Three Finger Swipe only switches between FULL SCREEN applications or windows. If you have your screen configured so that you can see your dock bar while on an internet browser, you are probably not in full screen. Press the Green button (Upper Left Usually) right next to the yellow and red, until your dock disappears and your Current Screen takes up the whole monitor. Then double check if your Three Finger Swipe is on and working.

Hope this helps

Yes, this worked for me. Reseting the PRAM/NVRAM, or restarting the mac, did not.

A fix that worked for me:

* Closed out of Safari

* Went to System preferences > mouse > unchecked "Swipe between pages"

* Turned mouse on and off (physically with power switch)

* Went to System preferences > mouse > checked "Swipe between pages"

* Restarted Safari

Thanks
