Swipes in Safari stop working

I'm having the same problem in mavericks and it's making my macbook pro extremely frustrating to use. The bug appears in safari, chrome, and the app store. I've also seen it affect photoshop where all gestures suddenly stop working. It begins happening seemingly at random and as soon as I try to scroll sideways the page will freeze and all gestures/touchpad scrolling will stop working. After logging out and back in the problem goes away temporarily but always comes back. The PRAM reset has not made any difference for me.

same problem here. Resetting PRAM doesn't help, or at leaste doesn't help for long.

In chrome, I see a little sliver of the 'going back' animation on the left side of the screen after one-finger swiping on my magic mouse. It stays there on that tab until I close that tab. Have also reproduced in Firefox.

The issue actually started since DP4 or DP5, and was never fixed. Resetting PRAM did not work for me neither, the problem came back after ~ 1 hour use. Log out some time works, but restarting always works for a while.

I am wondering if anybody having the same problem here has installed Jitouch or BetterTouchTool? I suspect this might be caused by a conflict from such 3rd party plugins.

For some reason, when upgrading to Mavericks, many users have had this gesture turned off. Go to System Preferences>Mouse (or trackpad)>Gestures - Check mark the swipe between pages.

I have the same problem on a Macbook Air. Just upgraded to Mavericks. Reboot fixes the program temporarily, as well as closing the application. I disabled the left/right swipe to avoid freezing the tab but this is very frustrating.

Obviously dsfilm didn't actually read the problem we're describing. It is having the gestures enabled which causes the problem in the first place! In response to stephenzli I do have bettertouchtool installed but disabling it entirely does not remedy the issue. I also suspected it might be the culprit. Maybe bettertouchtool alters the trackpad driver in some way that doesn't go away when you shut it down?

I think we need to clear this up. The issue that most people are reporting here has nothing to do with enabling the mouse gestures, this is a legitimate bug where when the gestures are enabled, using the swipe to go back pretty much freezes the app you are working with be it Chrome or Safari. I've noticed that sometimes using the swipe to go back basically disables any scrolling ability.

This is extermely frustrating. Clearing the PRAM I suspect just gives you the temporary appearance that the issues is fixed, no different than just rebooting, but after a short amount of time the issue will resurface.

sirjustin1, do you have bettertouchtool installed also? I reset all of my btt settings and shut it off and now I can't seem to replicate the issue. Fingers crossed that it doesnt come back

I'm getting the same issue. It's not only happening in Safari and the App Store, but also in third party apps. There's always at least one bug in a new release, but why is it always the most annoying ones! 😠

I had the problem with my magic mouse, I unlinked my blutooth connection and re-sync it back. Works fine now.

I do have Jitouch installed.

Once the problem "starts", disabling Jitouch does not alleviate the problem. So I am going to disable it, log out/in and see whether the problem arises.

Resetting the PRAM worked for me as a permanent solution. but i ain't got no jitouch and such stuff installed
