Swipes in Safari stop working

When using Safari in Mavericks, I can scroll up and down as usual with the 2-finger gestures, but if I try to do a 2-finger "back" swipe to go to the previous page that page freezes (can't scroll at all, no links respond and if try to click on the back/forward button, the page title and URL changes, but the page is still frozen as it was). I can go to another tab and navigate with the arrow keys, but all trackpad gesturing within Safari stops working. When I quit and relaunch Safari, all is back to usual. I deleted all Safari extensions, deleted all preference files, deactivated/reactivated the gesture in System Preferences and still acts the same. Any thoughts?

Thanks to this suggestion, I remembered that my top right screen corner is set in Hot Corners to "Put Display to Sleep". So I simply put the cursor there for a second, then the screen goes black. I then move the cursor and...POW! Swiping works again. Whole "process" takes 2 seconds.

But Apple still needs to fix this. Bug report filed and closed as a duplicate of bug #14969656.

well after restting PRAM, the problem went away fro a few days. But now it has returned. Safari freezes no swipes and no scrolling on Magic Mouse or Trackpad (when hooked up to external monitor).

Also affects swiping in iPhoto photostream photos.

This really affects my workflow as it seems to be random when it pops up. I'm in the middle of work, selecting photos, researching on safari and then it locks up. I have to stop what I'm doing, log out and log back in to get my basic functionality back.

Again I want to emphasize, resetting PRAM is a temporary fix as are all of the others. This is a serious bug that Apple needs to resolve.

For the record, I have reset SMC, PRAM, fixed permissions etc etc. All temporary fixes, it comes back within a few days.

I have reported to Apple as suggested.

The HDMI audio lock up from the last update (ML) was bad enough. Every update there is some major bug which hurts the user experience. Apple needs to check their updates before releasing them. I just do not remember seeing as many screw ups before. I've been a long time Apple cheerleader, but my patience is growing thin.

Hi,

if you are using BetterTouchTool please try this version: http://boastr.net/releases/btt0.988.zip

I think the problem is caused by a bug in OS X but can be amplified by third party tools ( I think even apps like Photoshop can trigger the issue).

I hope this version of BTT fixes it. It may even be able to help people who are not running any gesture tools.

Best,

Andreas
