Adding a template style page in Pages 5

Can anyone help me please?

I have upgraded to Pages 5.0 and not only are there far fewer interesting templates for me to start working from (I am looking particularly in the Newsletters section) but I am also having a problem adding template styled pages to a new project.

Previously I simply clicked on Insert > Pages in the menu and then selected the layout. I can't seem to find how to do this in 5.0 - all I can do is create a blank section.

I'm sure I must be missing something really obvious but I can't figure out what it is!

Regards, Peter

PS is there any way to upgrade to Pages 5.0 but not lose the decent (interesting) templates? I'm a school teacher and the kids love having interesting templates to start with - these new ones are terrible!

I think apple must realise that Pages 5.0 isn't the same beast as Pages 09 was (unfortunately). Hence them leaving 09 on our Macs. At least we should be thankful for small mercies - now to figure out what to do with an 09 document that opened in Pages 5...

So you are guessing that Apple has little idea of what it is doing?

Previous versions of iWork are still on your Mac for two reasons. You paid for them and Pages 5 is so half baked it gives Apple an out if they get sued.

Export the Pages '09 file back to Pages '09 format.

I know that you want to have the old templates back, but there is a way to add your own template manually.

1. First, just open the new pages (pages 5) and then create something that looks good or try to copy the format on page 09. *note: I don't know where you can just copy and paste the templates over, but you can try.

2. Save your finished template as "name".pages (without the quotes of course). If you try to save it as "name".template (the file extension of pages templates) it will say the required one is .pages

3. Go to the folder where you saved the file and then rename it with the extension to be .template.

4. Open the file after renaming and it should ask you whether you wish to add this template to the template chooser and just click add.

5. Pages 5 should soon open the template chooser and you should see the custom template you just added.

Also, if you're looking for the place where pages 5 keeps the templates, just go to the application and right click on it. Go down to show package contents and open it.

Open contents and then open SharedResources.

When in the folder, look for templates.

That folder is where all the templates are stored, you can also put your custom one in here, but it won't change much to my extent of knowledge.

I deleted my pages 09, before I realised pages 5 was so lacking, but you can try to put the template folders of pages 09 (I don't know where this is) to the pages 5 folder. I don't know if this works and I highly doubt that it does, but you can try. I am asking you to try many things, but it's simply because I don't have the pages 09 to test it. 😀

I really hope that Apple will update pages 5 to ammend this, as making these templates are very tedious and I would much rather use one that has already been planned. For now though, I guess I will be making my own templates.

Thank you, and I hope this helps!
