Recovery partition on OS X Mavericks!

Hey guys,

So i downloaded the mavericks installer from the app store today, and created a usb bootable pen drive containing mavericks! I did a clean install from the pen drive, but now i'm unable to find a recovery partition on boot! Just my mac hd! I can access recovery features such as "recover through time machine" from the USB pen drive, and ofcourse also install os x mavericks normally from the pen drive...

What have i done wrong? Why is there no longer a recovery partition?

PS: I followed a guide on macrumours on how to created the "Base system dmg" bootable, thats how i was able to make a bootable mavericks usb pen drive!

Having the same issue. Even removed my Boot Camp partition - tried to reinstall and same issue.

Installing from an external drive isn't supported. So who knows why you don't have the recovery partition.

You should re-install Mavericks from the installer in the /Applications folder. You may have to re-download it.

But you can't do a clean installation then? Downloading the application and launching from applications will upgrade.

If you REALLY want to do a clean install:

1) Do a non-clean installation of Mavericks

2) Once done, boot to the recovery partition with command-R. Then format your main partition and install Mavericks.

Why not? Install it, boot into Recovery, erase the drive, reinstall.

That's exactly what i'm doing now! I'm recovering my HD using a time machine backup when i still had a recovery partition on mountain lion. I will try upgrading to os x mavericks through the installer and see what happens! I have it backed up to another usb stick because i new it was going to be deleted from my app folder.

If you Mac is newer than Lion, you can boot into Internet Recovery by holding down cmd-opt-r. Reinstall from there.

I booted from the USB stick, erased internal, installed - have Mavericks with no Recovery partition.

Will Internet Recovery work even though I don't have a Recovery Partition? If so, will going through Internet Recovery install the recovery partition?

Also going to try the other USB method I posted above. I used OSX Daily's method.

If your Mac supports Internet Recovery (all that have been produced since Lion do), then you don't need a Recovery HD. It is primarily for setting up a new hard drive, or similar situations.

The statement was solely in reference to accessing Internet Recovery.

So i successfully reverted back to mountain lion and now i can see recovery hd 10.8.3 when i boot! I'm currently doing the upgrade process instead of the usb stick install method. Any issues after upgrading? Most people recommend a clean install, which is why i did that in the first place!

I'm afraid that OSXDaily's old method won't work even after i try the upgrade method, then boot from the usb drive to do a fesh install as you stated, because i fear that their process doesnt even include a recovery partition on the drive! They now included the new "terminal method" on their page, which Razie beleives it installs also a recovery partition along with boot install!

Razie, can you update me whether the terminal method works or not! I would definetly prefer to do a clean install and have a recovery partition. If it still doesnt work, do as i did bro, revert back to a time machine backup that you had on mountain lion and do the upgrade method until more help arrives 😀

Update: So i tried the terminal method you posted from macrumors, and it worked! Recovery is there and updated to 10.9
