Totally agree with you - I never post, but I have to post here.

Pages 5.0 is so unfriendly to use, on so many levels. How did this get the nod past the design phase?

So many neat features are gone, you can't even do anything with thte page thumbnails, table of contents are useless. Plus they tried to get clever by hiding many of the frequently used icons in that side panel.

It's a joke of a release.

I'm still waiting on a 'fix' for this to be released to us all...

Enf of rant.

My first time to post a comment on any forum, ever! I've have been frustrated for two days trying to figure out how to neatly organize bullets and numbers with the spacings they need. It turns out to be IMPOSSIBLE to get them alligned. Bye bye pages, I am downloading Microsoft Office as we speak..

I am a big fan of Apple products, but this is just embarrassing. Isn't there some sort of panel in place that test the design for at least 10 minutes before they release it? It seems that that would have solved the biggest issues..

Yep, I am talking about 5.1, sorry. I know it is doable in '09, however the topic now concerns the problems of 5, with tacit advice not to upgrade to the 5.1 version 😉

Let's entertain ourselves and see if it is possible at all!

See first screenshot: I am trying to get the large '3', back to the left, aligned with the big black '2.1'. What does not seem to work is using delete- or enter-key for doing it quickly, like it was possible in word of pages 9. It either moves up or down but is always aligning with the small numbers (1,2,3)

But then; selecting the part en changing the indent also does not seem to work (see second screen shot). The small ‘3’ moves left as well, which does not make sense to me.

Even if it is doable, I still think there should be a level of intuition to it (which I’m used from Apple). It seems to me that Apple overshot their ambition to simplify products by deleting features this time.. Anyway I am back to Word and pages 9 for my work with no hard feelings:)

Looks to me like you have extra returns, and possible some line breaks as well that I can't see, in front of the bold 3.

Menu > View > Show Invisibles

Hit delete twice (or thrice if you have another return) till it trails the small 3. point.

Then hit return, it will become point 4.

Then promote it till it is point 2.2.

Follow the logic. Every return is considered another item on the list.

If you want extra space Before/After a point make it with Before/After paragraph spacing, not by hammering away at the return key.

The Keyboard shortcuts for Pages 5 are listed under the Help menu.

PS I am not sure you are actually applying List styling, as some of the numbers are not hanging indents.

Thanks for your effort, I gave it a try but it didn't seem to work. I believe you if you say it is possible, but I am getting agitated in the process and don't really want to dedicate any more time to it.. And the numbering was not my only issue, so I have switched to other software anyway..

I'm a big fan of innovation and accept my learning curve if I believe time or value is repaid after mastering a piece of software! For a text editor like this, however, I think more incremental improvements would serve people better. It just not always worth it to learn new ways of editing, even if they it is simpler and better (which I really doubt in this case..).

Thanks anyway
