Maps not showing in Mavericks Calendar

Simply that, when I add location information to my calendar items nothing happens. No maps, no travel times, no nothing. They just sit there as static information. Is anybody else having this problem, and has anybody fixed it? There's another thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5466921?answerId=23468878022#23468878022) with this same problem, but it fixed itself in that situation and was marked as answered.

I decided to wipe all location data and start anew with my upcoming events and that's what it took. It doesn't work if I put the event location in on my iPhone, it doesn't work if I just paste in a pre-formatted address, but it does work if I start fresh on each entry. Thanks for the advice! Now if only it were a little more flexible...

I do not think that you can just type an address into the Add Location area. You start to type but then you must select the choice it makes for you. If you even edit a suggestion it will not work. It will only work when it can be selected from a list unchanged. And the biggest problem is Maps is bad at Geography and just doesnt know some locations and if it does not suggest it - you cant have it. Thats what I have found.

Hi Brian1355,

Has I noted earlier you can edit the Location by typing.

You can add the full address your looking for but yes you are correct that sometimes that address

will be "unknown" not marked within the Maps app.

If you let it mark the closest place, then click on the Map to open Maps app & fine tune here.

You can Drop a Pin & add it's address.

This does not mean that this will showup in Calendar-maps though!

From within Maps app though you can report the problem which ever it maybe?

User uploaded fileUser uploaded file

By clciking on the Pin then selecting Report a Problem or via Menu>Maps>Report a Problem.

The place I was looking for was not found in Google or Bing maps, sometimes the road is missing

or wrongly named. The more each of us respond to incorrect info the better this will become.

here is what worked for me:

1> Go to System Preferences > iCloud > Sign Out

(You'll be prompted multiple times to delete or keep the stuff that is on your Mac. Keep it.

2> Reboot

3> Go to System Preferences > iCloud and Sign In

4> Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Location Services and ensure Safari & Maps & Calendar are all enabled

5> What the heck, reboot again

6> Now open Calendar, go some time in the future and create a new event. Now, in location, SLOWLY type "London" ... if everything is working you'll see the little icon that shows the system is searching and then in a second or two it'll return a number of locations that have London in the name. Select one of them. Now you should see a Map!

I've had this problem. I fixed it by deleting any location info then when the word location reappears retyping the address with the city or town name first then wait for it to come up with any suggestions and it is very slow with no smart suggestions to allow for typo's so the address must be spelt correctly or maps will not find anything at all.

Also it is using Apple maps data which at this time is hopeless. It only has road names and no streetview so if you need directions to an industrial estate in say Swindon you have to know the road name that the business is on rather then just the name of the industrial estate and there are a lot of missing road names as well just for good measure.

It's going to take Apple a few years to get good at mapping.

My issue is addresses which are not a perfect match for an address in Apple's database don't get recognized. Short term fix - start typing the address and then choose from one of the Apple suggested addresses on the popup list (and not from the Recent entries). If you don't choose one of Apple's matches, it doesn't get recognized. Long term fix - I submitted an Apple bug for them to improve address recognition.

Edit:

I found the solution!

My Mac Mini was using it's Ethernet to access internet, and my wi-fi was on but sharing the ethernet connection.

I disabled internet sharing and then it worked!

Wi-fi must be active and not sharing throu it.

I think you were onto something (way back in 2013!) It looks like a bug, because switching off Internet sharing (or wi-fi) should have nothing to do with the problem (as MacMillsy politely observed.) If it is a bug, I can confirm that Apple have done nothing to fix it in the three years since this thread was created. I'm on El Capitan (10.11.6) and I'm having the same problem. I just turned off wi-fi (which stopped Internet Sharing in the process), and suddenly the address location autofill suggestions started working again (via the Ethernet connection presumably, as that's now the only connection to the Internet).

When your Mac hosts a wi-fi network with Internet Sharing, it can't be connected to the Internet via wi-fi at the same time. (That's explained in this article.) That's fine for me because my Mac is connected to the Internet via Ethernet. But it makes me wonder if the Calendar app is still trying to get location information via wi-fi, not realising that it can't connect that way. That's pure speculation, and would suggest some pretty poor programming on Apple's part, since the OS should provide seamless Internet access to the Calendar app regardless of how it's connected.
