Problem scrolling in WebBrowser after Mavericks upgrade?

Hi all,

OS X 10.9 Recently installed (Mavericks)

Is anybody having troubles scrolling and navigating using the trackpad on Chrome browser after downloading Mavericks?

If so, what will be a way of fixing this issue, because is rendering Chrome innoperable?

For Chrome, I tried a temporary solution which is the following:

  • I created a new tab and typed chrome://flags/
  • Then clicked Enable on "Enable touch eventsMac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS"

But this solution is temporarly and the issue persists.

Note: Safari works with no issue as other native applications.

Edit 1: Scrolling up-down works until one swipes to switch between previous or following webpages.

Go to System Preferences and click trackpad. Under trackpad select more gestures, and deselect the option swipe between pages.

It fixed that bug for me.

Brand new Retina 15" with Mavericks, setup assistant from Time Machine on mid-2009 MBP 15" Snow Leopard.

No vertical scrolling via trackpad at all - only up and down arrows work. Tried "always show scroll bars" and other suggestions without luck. EFI update says it is for 13", not 15". All software updates done.

Just tried above directions with NVRAM reset.

Still unable to scroll!😢

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I visited a Genius Bar 2 hours from home where they tried several things without success. They said the problem comes from a Migration Assistant error, and that I need a "Full User Rebuild." My schedule did not permit leaving my MBP. They suggested that I return with a full backup or clone so that they can do the user rebuild. I will do so as soon as other urgent issues permit, and will report.

I hope Apple will provide online support for this issue, which cripples the interface - a usb mouse helps a little.

Success!!! Visited Genius bar at South Hills (near PBGH) where Derek Green fixed the issue.

Again, my scrolling issue was not present in unmigrated accounts.

To fix, there is a hidden preference file which has to be replaced with one from an unmigrated test account.

I previous tried some suggestions in discussions here, BUT missed replacing hidden files.

To make all files visible, do this:

rmbp15:~ wth$ defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean true ; killall Finder

I believe the file name was like this:

/Users/wth/Library/Preferences/ByHost/.GlobalPreferences.*.plist

Sorry, there may also be another - to check, look at previous replies, Derek found one which lists which file(s) to replace, but I don't see it this AM, it may be in a different thread:

Derek replaced the file(s) with copies from a new, unmigrated account AND did a restart (not just a logout/login) and all is well.

Hope this helps! Took me a month and two visits. Thanks, Derek!

Hi William

I have this issue. I set up another user to test it and yes, the new user scrolls fine, however I can't find the directions earlier in the post that you allude to regarding the plist files. Do you know what they are or where I might find out what they are? I'm convinced this is the solution. I've unhidden all the files so I'm ready to go.

Let me know

All the best

Just had to do the same fix for NO trackpad up/down scrolling on my repaired 2009 15" MBP, after installing Mavericks and using Migration assistant from the Retina MBP fixed above.

After trying several com.apple.driver*.plist files in the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder without success,

I found that I had to replace this file:

/Users/wth/Library/Preferences/ByHost/.GlobalPreferences.*.plist

(where the .*. represent a long HEX string) with a copy from a fresh new user.

I did the

rmbp15:~ wth$ defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -boolean true ; killall Finder

and sudo to fix permissions before I could delete the problem file and replace it.

Hope that helps!
