Happy Mavericks day, y'all!
It would appear that iMovie 10, which was released along with Mavericks, won't work on my model iMac 24-inch Mid 2007. It won't update because it doesn't support the video card. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where one might dig in an effort to trick it in to working? I don't want the advanced bells and whistles just general conformity with my other systems.

iLife 10 (new 64 bit) installed with no problem on my iMac 20 - 2.4 GHZ - Radeon HD 2400 XT with 128 VRAM (Early '08) but iMovie 10 will not install on my other iMac 20 - 2.66GHZ with a Radeon 2600 Pro with 256 of VRAM (also Early '08).
It spits out a dialog box that says "We could not complete your update. Your computer's video card does not meet the miniumum system requirements"
This problem only occurs with iMovie and only on the 2.66 iMac with more VRAM. All other iLife apps installed without a hitch. I suspect this will be addressed in another update to iMovie. Hopefully soon.

Updates like Grageband and iPhoto installed without a problem except for iMovie,
I'm on iMac 20-inch 2.66GHz, Early 2008.

ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB.
I must say that the update appears in the Appstore.
I tried to update and this message appears:
"We could not complete your update.
Your computer’s video card does not meet the minimum system requirements."
Maybe it is a bug that Apple will fix. I hope.

I'm in the same boat with a mid 2007 iMac. Sadly, the ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 Mb graphics card is not OpenCL compatible. I'm guessing the only way to get iMovie to run on an iMac with this graphics card will be to trick it into installing the software somehow, and even then, it will probably run fairly slow.
I know some people install Final Cut Pro X on Macs without OpenCL enabled graphics cards by first installing the software on a supported Mac and then using target disk mode to copy all the installed files over to the unsupported Mac. Perhaps, someone will figure out if this works with iMovie also. I really hope I can get it to work, even if it is a bit slow.
Same thing here on my iMac from mid. 2007. Strange that all software will work great including the new system, but only iMovie need a better graphics card. So what they changed so much, that it will not work anymore?
I hate decissions who will kickout a lot of users for only one (or little bit more) new feature(s) who can be disabled for them.
That's the world of Apple. It was the same thing with iOS 6 for the iPad 1 who will not work on this device.

If iMovie was not supported in certain Mac computers so it did not have to appear as an update.
apparently it does bug and hopefully Apple will resolve it soon.
i hope that Apple will maintain the company's reputation,
recently i am having more and more problems with their products, the company should provide the best product for its customers especially when it comes to their super expensive products.
I can only hope that this is indeed a bug,and Apple did not disappoint me and the rest of the customers who buy their products.
Same problem, early 2008 iMac. The very strange thing is that I have been using Final Cut Pro X on this machine since it launched without a hitch... Seems that the specs required to run FCPX would be higher than iMovie no?
Copying an installed version of the new iMovie installed on a newer Mac onto an older Mac does work. I just did it
Thanks djstrat. Haven't had chance to do that yet so will do that later from one of my newer machines. Interesting to get feedback from people on problems/performance etc .

Older version was 1.2GB so you'd like to hope that 2-4 GB stick should work. There is also target disk mode and WiFi as suitable means to copy it over. You can install straight from a stick or hard drive - no need to copy it on to the drive that is being updated.

Has anyone else with this issue realized that if you open your current version of iMovie after updating to Mavericks, that when you try to record video through the iSight camera, it will not recognize a camera connected? I cannot upgrade iMovie, and cannot use the current version (iMovie 09).
That's a nice work-around but does anyone have a solution for people who only have one Mac? It would also be beneficial to users like me who do have newer additional Macs but elect not to upgrade them to Mavericks until these little annoying bugs get ironed out. Little annoying glitches like this iMovie fiasco are the very reason I updated the 2008 iMac first instead of taking a risk and possibly cheesing up my new rMBP.
